Best Camera Pack,

I spent a long time searching for a camera backpack that would work well for me. I am a small woman (5') who uses this pack for hiking and biking. I am able to put my Canon 30D w/70-200 F4 L lense attached in either the bottom or the top sections. I do have to rearrange the foam dividers to put the camera on the bottom section, but it is very secure and still easy to access. I usually have a 28-80 lense inside the bottom section too.
This pack is very well made and the included rainfly is a plus while hiking in Colorado where the weather can change in a blink of an eye. I checked out all the other major brands of backpacks and nothing compared to the quality of the Kata. I highly recommend this backpack for your camera gear.

i love this bag. it is amazing how much can fit into this bag. it is a relatively small bag, yet it holds two digital cameras with lenses attached plus additional room for lens, flash, etc.
i also love that it has both a chest/waist strap. it makes it very easy to wear and distribute the weight of the bag, even when i have both cameras in the bag. i am very happy with this purchase.

Pros: This is a great little bag. Very High Quality. I will buy KATA again. It has all the compartments you could ask for. Now, this is not a bag you would take out on a Pro Session, but is geared towards a family day out or a short day trip. I took it camping recently and the provided rain cover got its first use (this is a very handy extra). It worked wonderfully. It rained quite a bit and didn't even penetrate through. The storage area up top is quite roomy. It is the perfect size for a jacket (or a couple children jackets in my case) and some personal artifacts (or diapers and wipes in my case, haha). The Straps are comfortable and well padded, but the chest strap is a bit thin, but nothing to worry about. It is not flimsy, just not padded. The metal rings on the outside are great for hanging stuff on. The hinged camera compartment is awesome. My wife could get things out in a snap. I just had to swing it around quick if I needed something. The compartment fit the body+lens, about 10 filters, Camcorder, and had a space for an extra lens. The surprise cup holder pocket on the side is great, too.
Cons: The compartment for the camera is a bit small. Don't expect to fit the body+ a telescopic lens in there. I had a 18-55 attached and it was almost maxed out, but, like I said, it is more of a day out bag. The bag also has no way to secure the excess of the straps down. They kind of hang there and blow around. I personally took the waist strap off and used the elastic bands for the shoulder straps. Problem solved. This is not a functional problem, but just bothered me. Overall: If you want a bag to grab and go out the door. This is a great bag. Its very durable and functional. You can throw in you camera equipment, toss in some other junk, and head out. If you want a bag to hold all your fancy lenses and gear, then do not get this bag. Plus, If you need a bag for all that then shame on you! Fork over the extra dough for a bigger bag. DUH!!

Just received mine today & loaded it up for a week-long trip to Germany. In went my Nikon D200 with 18-200 mounted, 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, and SB-800 flash + various accessories, all in the lower compartment. The way this rotates out is brilliant. My computer is a Macbook Air, which fits widthwise into the computer area, leaving about 1/2 of it for papers, etc. Overall the external dimensions don't suggest how much capacity this bag really has. And it doesn't look like a camera or computer bag - it just looks like a nice medium backpack. The only omission I noticed so far is that there is no small pockets in the camera area for extra memory cards.

awesome bag. i was looking for a backpack type camera bag that wasn't as large and didn't say steal me all over it. THis bag looks just like any other backpack besides the KATA logo which is fairly small. Bought this bag for my 40D + 28-135 is lense. Fit the body with lense and hood attached backwards in perfectly. Also have the 580EX II. The speedlight is a little long for the compartment with the sto-fen attached, but put hte flash to 90 degree angle it and it fits better. With room to spare for my chargers, extra batteries and my 50mm f/1.8II.. top compartment has enough room for small lunch and other assorted items. side water bottle holder fits normal 20oz bottles fine. used it to fit my tripod with two legs in it and strapped around the bag with the bag straps. Took this bag on a 6 mile hike. didn't feel the weight at all. great bag. buy if ur equipment load is smaller or if u just want a bag to take ur single kit on.! hope this helps!

I recently purchased this rucksack to take to England and Scotland for 12 days. I looked at a lot of photo backbacks or rucksacks and decided on this one because of the storage in the top compartments. I was very happy with it. We were able to carry around my camera, my extra lens and other photo supplies. It was easy to access my extra lens and protected my camera very well. The top was great for snacks, maps, glasses, I-pod and much more. When I didn't use the side net for a water bottle holder I used it to carry my umbrella. I found it very comfortable and I would highly recommend this product.

Roomy bag that doesn't look big. To a graphic designer, this "rucksack" is really beautifully designed, extremely well made, ergonomically comfortable even on one shoulder, very nice accoutrements, and best of all, does not scream dorky or camera bag. The upper compartment is just big enough to fit a rolled up windbreaker, wallet, notebook, pens, iPod, and stash a light lunch. Hidden side zipper pocket for your bottled water. Easy access to equipment without having to set the pack down due to its ingenious "kangaroo pouch" design of the lower compartment; a major selling point to me (other than their cool "Kata" logo.) Most excellent!

This is a steal of a deal. I love the "hinged" bucket design and it has enough room for all my toys and extra personal items as well.
Pros: Good price Built tough good design doesn't look like a photo backpack Cons: Waist belt is a bit wimpy (preference issue) I wish it was taller, I have a long torso...

Great Bag, Lots of Room, Not Too Bulky,

I was tired of lugging around my previous bag that didn't seem to hold my digital canon camera, a wide angle lens and a portable flash. It was annoying to fight to get the camera in and out and to have to disassemble it each time. Plus I always had to put my video camera in another bag or leave it home.
When looking for a new bag I did not want something as large as a duffle bag or large backpack. Many of the in between models are built to swing around your shoulder and open sideways for access... that kind of scared me as my equipment is not cheap and I'd hate for anything to fall out! This bag I like because it claimed to be able to fir 2 cameras, lenses, and flashes and still have room for other stuff. And, that seems to be true. I have my digital camera with all it's gear ATTACHED, books, etc, along with my video camera all fitting easily into the bottom zippered area of the bag...the top area we use for our wallets and keys and for any items I normally keep in the kids diaper bag! This is a backpack style bag, but not nearly as bulky as you might expect for something that holds so much. I have turned 3 bags - camera bag, diaper bag, purse - into this one and still have room to spare in all compartments and it is not heavy to carry over one shoulder or both. Quality is great, all fabric and zippers seem sturdy! The bottom area has adjustable padding for a custom fit and I am very happy with the way it opens and holds the stuff. If I had to say one "con" about this bag I'd say maybe a few more choices of color would be nice :)... I know "black goes with everything"... but maybe a bright blue could be fun too :)!

Got this Kata Rucksack in a few days ago and have been trying it out. Needed it to carry my 7D with other accessories such as my zoomH4n, batteries, lenses, etc. The lower compartment would fit the camera w/stock lens (or 50mm prime as I have on it now) lens beside it (got the stock next to it), with three other pouches to spare. If you had a larger telephoto that would take up two, but I've got the two taken up with batteries and chargers, and the last one with mounts for holding the camera.
The top compartment is bigger than I expected, and is quite nice. Got the ZoomH4n, Wallet, Phone, USB voiceover mic I carry around with me (AT2020), video ipod, CF card reader, notebook, pens, with room to spare for a lightweight jacket if needed, lunch, or other stuff for the road.... all in there. My laptop compartment is empty right now, but soon to have a 13" or 15" macbook pro in it. I have heard from other people about them bending their macbooks, so this is something I'll be very concerned and careful about. Front three pockets... center one is great for cables and other misc items, other two, one's got the rain cover in it, the other one is empty, but usually holds work badges, that sort of thing. The bag sits comfortably on my shoulders, top handle is great. Weight is great on the bag, it sits upright with no problems either fully loaded or empty. I agree with others that the waist clip is useless, might just chop mine off. We'll see. The water bottle mesh holder on the side is a tad small, but I was still able to fit my regular sized travel mug in it, it was just a little tight. Which was probably a good thing because it was held in really well. But it did seem a bit TOO tight. So yeah, thats about it.... so far its been a great little bag. I'll probably get some CF card holders and a filter holder to go in one of the front pockets. The end. |
