I have the old PUR brand hiker pro and this filter the replacement for it. It is used in both Katadyn and older PUR Hiker models.

Overall, I think the quality of Katadyn filter is better than the older PUR brand, but neither of them lasted long. If you do extended backcountry trips, expect it to last about 2 weeks with 4 people using it. I do not trust the durability of ceramic filters so I stick with my trusty old PUR/KATADYN hiker which is easy to repair and rebuild with the kit provided.

This is the third year we've used these replacement filters in the Katadyn Base Camp water filter. The Base Camp is an excellent idea; fill the bag and let gravity do the work.
The filters are advertised as: "Provides up to 200-gallon capacity (depending on water quality)" I'm guessing you'd only get 200-gallons with clean, city tap water.
The past 3 years we've gone into the BWCA with 8 people for 4 days. We bring the Base Camp filter with 2 replacement cartridges. Each cartridge lasts for perhaps 25-30 gallons (~ 10-12 refills of the Base Camp bag). The water in the BWCA generally has a red tint (iron?) and there are always a few microscopic bugs, but I would still hope a filter would last more than 25-30 gallons. I follow all the directions that come with the filter with the hope of extending its life, but it doesn't really help.
I'd give this filter 5 stars if it lasted for just 100 gallons or were half the current price of ~ $33 USD.
On the positive side, the filter works - no one has returned home with a water-borne illness.
P.S. This year, Amazon was the only place we could find these filters. They had been back-ordered (sometimes for several months) at all the local retailers.

Used this on a four-day Appalachian Trail hike, and it worked great. I was with a scout group, and there were two other water filtration products in the group. The Katadyn worked much better than the other two, and we ended up using it to filter water for most of the group. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

but.. I also like to save as much money as possible. I have the Katadyn Hiker Pro and love it. We backpack a lot so it was time for a replacement filter. Amazon.com had the best prices. My item was shipped in plenty of time to be used on my 9 day backpacking trip to Glacier N.P. Amazon's Customer service rocks!!

I just used this cartridge in my old PUR hiking filter for a 3 day/22 mile hike in North Carolina's Linville Gorge. I worked great in my old PUR filter(pump) I bought about 10 years ago. The filter cleaned water for 3 people on this trip and worked great.
I had no issues with the vendor. They shipped the item promptly and I was billed correctly.

I bought this to replace the filter in our Katadyn Base Camp filter. This a a great filter, but doesn't last for the 500 gallons it is advertized. Perhaps 50 gallons? Katadyn needs to change the label on this so people know what they are getting.

Easy replacement...comes with replacement O-rings and silicone lubricant too. Well worth the price--you probably will want to stock up on a few of these, both for your regular outdoor uses and "just-in-case." Want an interesting internet search??? Go to your favorite search engine and input "municipal water supply contamination" and see what you get. Definitely worth your while to buy a good water filter (I use and recommend Katadyn) PLUS some spare filters.

This is the best water purifying system I have used. Fill the bag with lake water, hang on a tree branch, open the valve and you have drinkable water. The lakes we were in were full of algae, and plugged the filter after the fourth day. We cleaned the filter after we got home, and will bring this spare one in the future. great product

I am a scoutmaster and we have been using this product for a number of years. No one has ever gotten sick. It cuts down on the water we carry. If you have to do several quarts at a time this works very well. I would not go out without it.

I ordered this to replace a used up filter in a "Pur Hiker" pump. The pump design is the same as the Katadyn Hiker but the issue of brand name interchangeability was a concern. Well, if anyone else was wondering about whether or not this filter will work in your old Pur brand filter/pump - it does. Also the filter element protector screen... thing... seems like an improvement over the OG Pur filters which were pretty good already (many, many gallons of all sorts of Alaskan water filtered with this system; no beaver trots to speak of and we've got lots of big ol gnarly beavers up here).
I only give it a 4 star rating because, well heck, I don't want to just give the fifth one away ...gotta keep 'em trying you know.
