I have the Katadyn carbon filter holder also. I found that the filter holder will not hold all the carbon from package when opened. This could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at the situation. If you buy multiple packs of the carbon you will eventually have enough for a refill with out having to purchase more. I figure between 3 or 4 you would have enough for a bonus refill. I've been using the Katadyn carbon element on my Guide filter for years. It does a great job of improving the taste of the water. Just make sure you follow the instructions and replace the carbon every six months. Otherwise you'll end up drinking water that tastes like dirty socks.
