1st season is only 6 episodes on 1 disc,
By Lulu "lulu_in_hollywood" (The Rat's Mouth, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kate & Allie - Season One (DVD)
I just want to point out that Kate & Allie was a midseason replacement, and as such, its first season consists of only six episodes:
Allie's First Date The Very Loud Family Odd Boy Out The Family Business Dear Diary A Weekend to Remember According to Amazon, the six episodes that make up Kate and Allie's first season are all on one disc. Therefore, the retail price you're paying for this "set" is actually for one disc with the first six episodes of Kate and Allie. Be aware of that before buying.

A ""Universal " Ripoff,
By
This review is from: Kate & Allie - Season One (DVD)
This is not a review of the series but a critical coment on Universal's marketing procedures that should be protested. Besides Kate & Allie-Wings and That Girl are being released this spring. The latter two like Kate & Allie were short first seasons-However Sony and Paramount are releasing both seasons 1 and 2 for only 7 dollars more than Universal is charging for 6 episodes of Kate and Allie. Why didn't Universal do the logical thing like the other 2 studios and release seasons 1 and 2. Greed? No respect for the consumers? Shame on Universal Studios!!

GET THE CANADIAN ONE!!!,
This review is from: Kate & Allie - Season One (DVD)
Before you buy this, go to Amazon.ca and get the Canadian one, which has now released up to SEASON 4! The first set contains BOTH season one AND two, unlike the shameful American version which only contains six episodes of the first season, and at the price of 22 episodes!
UPDATE: Amazon.ca is releasing the final season of 'Kate and Allie' this month (August 2009)!

This review is from: Kate & Allie - Season One (DVD)
If you like this show, you can order seasons 1 AND 2 from amazon.ca for about the same price counting curency conversion and shipping. I just got all 28 season one and two episodes delivered from them. This 6 episode set here is a complete rip-off.
The only I give the item 1 star is value, the show is 5 stars all the way.

Wait a month and get the real deal,
By Mr. Ben (NY, NY) - See all my reviews

Just noticed that the Canadian release of Kate and Allie will feature the complete first and SECOND seasons at a fraction of the price - preorder $25.00 Canadian dollars (about $20 US) on the Canadian website! Hold off a month and go for this package of 28 episodes (plus bonuses) out on June 6th.

Beware that this disc contains syndicated episodes!,
By
This review is from: Kate & Allie - Season One (DVD)
Half of the 6 episodes on this disc are the syndicated cuts -- not the original, full-length network episodes. This set is really a slap in the face to fans who eagerly awaited its release on DVD.

BEWARE OF MAJOR RIP-OFF!!!,
By Olivia Quinn (Colorado, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kate & Allie - Season One (DVD)
As other reviewers have stated, this "Season One" is only six episodes long since this show was originally a mid-season replacement. I'm so glad I realized this before the item shipped and was able to take it out of my cart. Why can't Universal release seasons one and two together? The marketing genius at Universal who decided to release six episodes at such an inflated price at should be fired. I agree with the reviewer who said Universal is displaying their greed and disrespect for the customer. Over $20 for less than 3 hours of the show? I don't think so. The SERIES itself gets 5 stars, however, I am only giving this craptacular packaging one star. I'm waiting for a full season 2.

A lost 80's gem.,

I was so excited when I heard that Kate & Allie was finally coming out on dvd. Ever since Oxygen took the show off their schedule I can't watch it anymore. This is the one show that reminds me so much of high school. I'm the same age as the characters of Emma and Jennie (Kate and Allie's Daughters) and I went through a lot of the same things they did on the show. I graduated High school when they did and I started college the same year they did. I have an old video tape that has a couple of episodes from seasons 2, 3 and 4. Every once in awhile I'll pop the tape in the vcr and watch it. I enjoy the episodes now as much as I did when they originally aired. I do hope that when the dvd comes out it's the network broadcast episodes and not the syndicated ones. The only way I'll be able to tell, at the end of every episode Kate and Allie would be sitting on the couch and talk about various things. Usually whatever had happened in the episode would be the topic of conversation. These clips haven't been seen since the show aired on CBS. I also remember right before the end credits you would hear Susan St. James and Jane Curtin say "Don't go away, Kate and Allie will be right back." I really do hope Universal will release the original episodes.
Having said that, I agree with everyone about Universal only releasing the first season, 6 episodes, and charging the price for a full box set. I think that's total rubish and feel that season two should have been released with season 1. But I also think that if season 1 does'nt sell then Universal probably won't release the other seasons. After season 3 of Roseanne was released, there was a release date for season 4. Gimmie A Break! and Charles in Charge have been out for a couple of months and there hasn't been a release date for the second seasons of those shows. I plan on buying Season 1 of Kate and Allie cause I want the other seasons to be released and I think that other fans of the show should buy the season as well. I hate Universal but I want this show on dvd more.

Too Much for ONLY SIX Episodes,
By Bennet Pomerantz "Bennet Pomerantz, AUDIOWORLD" (College Park, Maryland) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Kate & Allie - Season One (DVD)
Kate and Allie is a great buddy comedy. It had heart. It was not Lucy or Laverne & Shirley--it was character driven by human emotion and a love of family. It was a sitcom above the rest
What ticks me off is the high price for SIX (yes 6 ) Episodes. Somebody lined their pockets on this DVD release-Hopefully someone will re-release these six with season two Its worth five stars, but if is was more of a price break, i would rate it higher Bennet Pomerantz, AUDIOWORLD

A Huge Ripoff,
By
This review is from: Kate & Allie - Season One (DVD)
I cannot believe that they are selling this as "Season One" with only 6 episodes!!! For the price they are charging it would have been nice to have season two thrown in. The sad thing is, this was a great show and broke a lot of the "rules" that society had made for divorced women in the 80's. I ended up taking it out of my shopping cart before it was shipped once I realized how many episodes it contained. Hopefully if enough people complain, we can get season two added to the mix. This is the ONLY reason I gave it one star!
