4.0 out of 5 stars Better than that Robert Jobson's book, May 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kate (Hardcover)
This book is definitely better than Robert Jobson's book (William's Princess), while he's book was half gossip as well as half Charles and Camilea; this book has been well researched and focuses on the subject...Kate Middleton.

Although, I admit the author has written a biography of Kate Middleton a bit too early (due to the fact she is not engaged to Prince William). The author focused on Ms. Middleton's ancestors (starting in the Victorian Era)in the first half of her book, and then gradually goes into the life that Ms. Middleton has led so far.

There are a few good pictures within the book, and it was interesting to find out that both Prince William and Kate Middleton share a common ancestor, a General Fairfax whom was in the English Civil War.

The only thing that I have against this book is that the author's writing style can be a little dry at times, over all a very good book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and Enjoyable, April 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I read the book when it first came out and found it most enjoyable. There is a very detailed history of Kate's ancestors. Some worked in the coal mines. I was shocked to read how difficult and bleak were the lives of the coal miners and their families. They even had to bring their own equipment to work six days a week and work very long hours without any sick days or vacations. It also gave enormous information about Kate and William's meeting and courtship during and after college, even up until the time they were engaged. Also enjoyed reading about their various getaways, vacations and hunting trips.

Kate is a lovely intelligent, sophisticated, elegant lady who is perfectly suited for William and who will be a beautiful Queen one day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Book...Skiped History, February 16, 2011
This book was excellent! I sat down really got into the book and finished in no time! It was so interesting and it gave some great information on Kate and the type of person that she really is as well as the relationship between her and William. I however wasn't really concerned with her family history or anything like that, so I started on Chapter 12 "A Little Princess." However, I am going to go back and read it because I loved the Chapter 12 and on so much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, May 9, 2011
I've definitely been trying to get my hands on anything Prince William and Kate related since the wedding. The author does an amazing job describing their history but she leaves all of the tabloid reports of it. You don't feel you are reading a tabloid but you are reading a well-researched book. Definitely a must!

KATE: KATE MIDDLETON, PRINCESS IN WAITING, by Claudia Joseph, was written and published just before the official 2010 November engagement announcement. As such, it may very well become a collector's item, because it only lists the "probable" engagement.

What sets this book apart from most of the other William and Kate books, is that the beginning chapters give a detailed history of Kate's ancestors. The family was quite poor to begin with, but "pulled itself up by it's bootstraps" -- in the best of America's Horatio Alger traditions(!) This gives a nice little "Ha-ha", to those in England who STILL say, "you're getting above yourself", to ambitious English boys and girls, (and men and women), of the lower classes who want to rise financially and socially. The beginning chapters really DO read like a modern-day written Horatio Alger tale. However to be fair, I must admit something found out subsequent to this book's publication: it was later discovered that Prince William and Kate Middleton are, in fact, 15th cousins! Of course, everyone's related, and 15th cousins ARE a bit removed...but one wonders if it is indeed here a case of "nature" winning over "nurture". The Middletons and their ancestors were quite remarkable people! (But sci-fi fan me is still a bit disappointed that Charles Middleton -- the very good and convincing actor who played the prosecuting attorney in an early version of "An American Tragedy", and also "Ming The Merciless"

in the 1930s "Flash Gordon" serials, is not mentioned in this book. Hmmm....maybe a relationship will be found out later.....)

At any rate, the later chapters tell much about Ms. Middleton and her relationship with Prince William. The pictures are good, but far too few for my taste. Many of them show Kste, and Kate and William, but some also show what other books do not -- Kate's doughty, brave and hard-working ancestors!

A book to be read and cherished, by all who admire Royalty, and the American Dream!
