5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME~!!!!!!!, August 25, 2004

This is the most refreshing thing that I have heard in electro music in a long time! Where others have failed in attempting to acheive the mix of rock and electronic music Spalding Rockwell succeeds.

Vicious and Masha both reivent this genre. Although Spalding Rockwell came out of the Electroclash scene it's clear that they have grown far beyond those walls practically inventing their own genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good genes are hard to find, August 25, 2004

This group has all the markings of a long lasting love affair with the public. Their lyrics have the verve of Eminem while being strictly "girl". And good looking ones at that.

This is a superb, rocking record, that sadly has been underpromoted, and probably lumped into the Electroclash backlash. Seems like in 2003/2004 everyone just decided to hate electroclash, and Spalding Rockwell certainly were darlings of the EC scene. It's fair to say that most of the other EC artists had marginal talent at best (W.I.T. being a great example of this, Fischerspooner as well). Spalding Rockwell's "White Cotton Panties" track on the BADD compilation provided little indication as to how truly talented they are - it was a typical EC novelty track.

Thats why it was such a shock to hear the "Kate" record. The CD is really deep, tracks are totally hooky and memorable. The production is sleezy, aggressive, fun, and spacious - a great sounding record. Standout tracks include "Masha", "Ingrid", "Nina", "Kissing" and "Cocaine". The other tracks are all good as well, there isn't really any filler with the exception of the "Outro" track which closes the record - and to be honest, I like that as well.

The songs are about sex, drugs, rock and roll. There is a consistent theme of "buy me nice clothes, keep giving me blow, and i'll make you feel good too". Not exactly the most profound subject matter, but the way Spalding Rockwell brazenly struts, shoves it in your face and says, "if you can afford it, let's go, if not, get lost" is kind of hilarious. And the songs are great. If there's any justice, these women should be major stars, right now.

I'm not so sure Spalding Rockwell will have much to say musically when their beauty (along with the drugs) fades later in life - maybe they'll make the "Middle Aged Coke Whore" Concept Album of all time. But meanwhile - they write great songs, and look great doing it. Listening to "Kate" is kind of like those unforgettable nights when you were thin as air, in your twenties, off your head, and you knew you were beautiful..........sigh......

After seeing these beautiful girls live I longed for their cd to hit the shelves. Now that "Kate" has come out I'm happy once again. Way to go Spalding Rockwell!!
