Book Description

August 1998
Lovable, cuddly, and oh-so-soft -- knitted toys make great playthings. Plus, they're fun and easy to do! Knit a menagerie of whimsical creatures that will bring a smile to any kid's face. Just choose one that's right for your skill level: they're divided into easy, straightforward, and challenging. Altogether, there are over 60 animals from around the world: a spider monkey, snake, merino sheep, duck-billed platypus, kangaroo, baby husky dog, grizzly bear, emperor penguin chick, polar bear, panda, tiger cub, koala, cat, raccoon, moose, zebra, lion, elephant, and so many more!

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

From the jungle to the outback, the farm to the forest, the tundra to the deep blue sea, here are dozens of adorable creatures (plus some little people) to knit for your own little ones. And you needn't be an expert knitter; each pattern is rated easy, straightforward, or challenging, so you can pick the ones that fit your skill level. Some knitted toy designs wind up looking like alien experiments gone wrong, but these critters are completely cute without being cutesy. In addition to the charming but expected (a piglet, elephant, monkey, cat, chicken, panda, bear, and the like) there are plenty of delightful surprises (a platypus, warthog, zebra, rhinoceros--even a wombat). --Amy Handy

From Library Journal

We're not talking just cute knitted teddy bears here. Dalmeny's menagerie includes penguins, wart hogs, and raccoons as well as bear cubs, grizzlies, and polar bears?more than 50 animals from around the world. The book groups animals in tableaus that picture them in their natural environment. For example, the "On Safari" scene includes an elephant, a rhino, a zebra, and a park ranger grouped around a waterhole on the African plains. Projects are classified as easy, straightforward, or challenging; instructions are clear and include full-color illustrations of each animal. Highly recommended for public libraries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soft, adorable knitted toys for all ages and sizes!!!!!!!!!!, October 3, 1998
This review is from: Kath Dalmeny's World of Knitted Toys (Hardcover)
Wonderful book, Toys come in two sizes. One is chubby (big enough to display 12 - 26") and two is clutch (12" and under), just right for small hands. Kath also includes pattern changes for eyes (concerning small children) to make them safe for even the smallest child. Great Book!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars fun!, June 4, 2000
This review is from: Kath Dalmeny's World of Knitted Toys (Hardcover)
Jungle, Safari, Outback, North Pole... there is a whole zoo of animals to knit here, and cute little people to match, in various costumes. My only regret is that I only have so much spare time in which to make these, and I want to start everything at once! Patterns are rated for difficulty, and great pictures/diagrams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, January 12, 2000
This review is from: Kath Dalmeny's World of Knitted Toys (Hardcover)
Even if you are a beginner, you will love knitting these cute animals and the kids who play with them will have a great time. Great pictures of each animal. The explanations can be difficult but are pretty straightforward.

I highly recommend this book to all parents who are tired of Barbie Dolls! And my mother-in-law loves being able to knit for her grand kids something other than sweaters.
