Depressing and inaccurate.,

This review is from: Katherine: It's Time : The Incredible True Story of the Multiple Personalities of Kit Castle (Paperback)
Like another reviewer, I myself am multiple. This book is absolutely horrible, with a depressing ending that sends a bad message to anyone who is multiple or anyone trying to learn about those who are.
And of course, we have the same old "must integrate!" message being drummed out, which in this book really seems more like murder than healing. I'd give this book 0 stars if possible. People who want a decent book should read The Flock, by Joan Casey or Set This House In Order, by Matt Ruff. Neither of those books are the best things in the world, but they are certainly much better than this garbage. If you have this book, burn it and go do some research on multiplicity that doesn't involve the "poor abused victim with the stereotypical alters she must battle and smush together" mind-frame.

IT'S TIME FOR KATHERINE!,

Elizabeth Katherine Meyer survived extreme physical, mental and sexual abuse in childhood. Her father was an especially cruel man who would often taunt Katherine and set her up to be ridiculed by others. At an early age, Katherine perfected her "retreat" skills. She had somehow created seven alters to go to bat for her at various points in her life. They were different ages and two of the alters were male. One of her male alters, "Michael," was described as an ISH, or Inner Self Helper. It is Michael who ironically helps Katherine to bring her other alters together. Liz and Me-Liz were twin alters who coped with pain. The Liz personality was the weakest, so Katherine's other alters conducted a "meeting" and banished her. It is through a painful divorce, losing custody of her twin daughters and her 1965 Dodge Coronet that Katherine finally confronts her condition. Her soldierly efforts with her therapist prove fruitful and ironically, it is Michael (perhaps he was named after the Archangel, known for his protection against evil and a brave warrior) who really brings the healing process together. The book's title, "Katherine, It's Time" has been shortened to "Kit," the name the author currently uses.

I read this book for the first time about 6 years ago, and have re-read it several times since. A courageous tale concerning outrageous violations of trust and the enormous strength it takes to transform despair into hope. The metaphysically non-typical experiences she describes have haunted me for years. Brilliant.

This is a very intersting look into the mind of someone who suffers from MPD or better known today as dissociative identity disorder. This was a story that did not go into all of the horrific trauma this poor girl suffered as a child, but certainly enough to allow the reader to understand reasons that the mind might have split for survival. I am studying psychology in college now and wanted another perspective other than Sybil and found it hard to put the book down. I read the entire book in 4 days.

A searing, unforgettable read,
This review is from: Katherine: It's Time : The Incredible True Story of the Multiple Personalities of Kit Castle (Paperback)
"Katherine, It's Time" tells a story I simply cannot shake out of my mind --- the terrible childhood abuse, the struggle for sanity, the "splitting" into various fragmented personalities, each one representing the self's attempts to survive. The "occult" aspect of MPD, which has become increasingly well-documented in recent years, is a particularly fascinating part of this account. It appears that people whose psyches have been stressed to these extremes develop extranormal abilities such as clairvoyance or telepathy, but that these abilities fade away with integration. In "Katherine," one personality appears to be strongly telepathic, and the "spirit guide" Michael emerges as one of the most vivid personalities of all. Whether Michael is the invention of a foundering, desperate soul or a messenger from beyond remains for the reader to judge.

Being a multiple myself and knowing a--forgive the pun--host of others, I must say that this is one of those books that gives a bad name to our community. This woman was not only socially and legally irresponsible, but down right nutty. Personally, I think whoever diagnosed her as multiple did her a grave diservice. The woman seemed more likely schitzophrenic to me. And UGH! It was terribly written!
