Gentle Scots Romance,

This review is from: Katherine Wentworth (Hardcover)
D. E. Stevenson wrote nearly fifty romances between WWII and the early 70's, mostly set in a timeless Scotland and England where people dress for
dinner and have servants. This one is distinguished by its first-person approach, written by a young widow living in an apartment in Edinburgh, who runs into a former schoolmate she didn't even know well, and doesn't ever come to like much. Still that encounter changes her life. Her children, especially stepson Simon, are very well drawn, and the settings are lovely. Stevenson's books are a little like Rosamunde Pilcher's, but perhaps simpler and gentler.

Heart warming,

This review is from: Katherine Wentworth (Hardcover)
D.E. Stevenson as always wrote a heart warming story about a young woman and her children which includes a stepson.
Katherine is a devoted mother who does her best to keep a good attitude toward what ever may come their way since the death of her husband and the father of the children. An school acquaintance shows up and things start happening that Katherine doesn't like, she wonders if maybe this was not a good idea to renew the acquaintance. Simon the stepson is respectful of his stepmother and very much a gentleman with wisdom for his age. For there situations awaiting him that these attributes will be much needed. Very enjoyable. |
