A Kid's Review
This review is from: Angels in Pink: Kathleen's Story (Library Binding)
Don't get me wrong. I love all of Lurlene McDaniel's books, but they're all just so sad. She's probably only written like 4 books where the main character or the main character's girlfriend or boyfriend doesn't die. It can get depressing. But the new Angels in Pink books aren't like that.
So there are 3 best friends who are all 16, Kathleen, Holly, and Raina. They decide to volunteer at a local hospital for the summer and become "pink angels". Kathleen is really happy when she meets Carson, the really hot guy who's also volunteering, but not by choice. They hit it off, but she worries about where they're going. Carson has this goargous friend, Stephanie, who keeps showing up. Kathleen feels really intimidated. Carson doesn't ever like cheat on her though. I love how he doesn't ever pressure her to go too far, and how he doesn't care that Kathleen's never had that much experience with guys. I want someone like Carson!!!!!!!!!! Waaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol this book is sooooooooooo good! and the best part is, there's still 2 books in the series after this one.

Good start to a new series, but it's typical McDaniel,

I'm a huge fan of Lurlene McDaniel's books, but they all seem to blend together after a little while. KATHLEEN'S STORY is the start of a new series (Angels in Pink), and even though its your typical teen romance/drama book, I loved it.
Kathleen isn't too happy when her friends Raina and Holly decide to volunteer at the hospital over the summer, but she gets sucked into doing it too. The reason Kathleen is so reluctant to go with them is simple - her father was killed in a car accident and her mom has multiple sclerosis (MS), and Kathleen thinks she's seen far too many hospitals before. Over the course of the summer, the three friends go through a lot - boyfriends, new friends, perks of their new job, and a possibly life-changing decision. When Kathleen starts to hang out with - and fall for - the "bad boy" of the volunteer program (Carson Keifer), she thinks the summer is going to be great. Until she meets his friend Steffie, who's prettier than Kathleen, and she's also a model. Kathleen isn't sure what she wants anymore, and her friends try to help her out along the way. KATHLEEN'S STORY is good, and it isn't as sad as most of McDaniel's books. It's a book you can only read once or twice, though, so I'd get it from the library (or wait until it comes out in paperback, so you won't be paying too much for it). Recommended to fans of Angel of Mercy, A Walk to Remember, and the Mates, Dates, and...series. Overall grade - B

Unforgettable story. You won't want to miss!!,
This review is from: Kathleen's Story (Angels in Pink) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book will leave you wanting more. Kathleen, Raina, and Holly. Three best friends, three Pink Angles, three unforgettable stories. This book is about a girl named Kathleen and her two best friends and their adventures. This story will touch you. You will not be able to put the book down once you start the book. Kathleen and her friends work as volunteers in a program at the hospital. She only volunteers so she can escape her mother who constantly needs her 24/7. The author makes the book so real it feels like you are really and you are going through the same thing the characters are going through.
While she is there she meets a cute boy named Carson who nonstop flirts and makes Kathleen melt into a puddle of love. But Carson has a friend named Stephanie, a mean girl (who is also a model) who always finds a way to torture Kathleen. When something bad happens to Kathleen's mom she doesn't know what to do or who to turn to. But lucky for Kathleen she has Carson and her two best friends. There are other book to go along with this one book. The series is sad but it is very good and very well written. In all of the book you feel as if you are walking with the characters and you are going through the same thing with the characters. Kathleen is very worried that her relationship with Carson will not work out because Stephanie is sure that she will end up with Carson. But Kathleen will not let it happen or will she. Carson says that Stephanie is just an old friend and that nothing is going to happen between them and he only wants to be with Kathleen. Read this book and find out what happens between Carson and Kathleen and a whole lot more. You will love this book and the rest of the series.

I ordered this book the minute info was released so I'd been waiting for months for it. When I finally got it, I read through it completley. I finished it at about 1:30 in the morning but i didnt care. it was so awesome that i just couldnt put it down. but then again i love all of Lurlene McDaniel's books. i loved how it showed the three different views from all three girls. and i loved how Carson taught Kathleen to get out of her own little world and to have some fun. i am these girls age so I know how they feel. this is a definate have-to read. i cant wait for the next two and have already ordered them.

The Story of a Young Girl "Kathleen's Story",
This review is from: Angels in Pink: Kathleen's Story (Library Binding)
Boys beware "Kathleen's Story" the first book in the Angels in Pink series is probably not for you. This book is full of girl talk, romance, and all sorts of things that boys don't relate to. Kathleen and her two friends Raina and Holly decide to spend their summer vacation as Pink Angels in Parker-Sloan General Hospital.
At first Kathleen is reluctant to volunteer because she has to care for her wheelchair bound mother, but her friends convinced her to volunteer anyway. Kathleen is surprised she likes volunteering as much as she does. Not only does she get a break from her mother, but she gets to help others, and meet new people. Having to care for her mother didn't leave her with much time to socialize with boys, so when she meets Carson, another volunteer, she is unsure how to act. The title of the series is what caught my attention, and the fact that is was written by Lurlene McDaniel, one of my favorite authors. "Kathleen's Story" kept me interested and always wondering what would happen next. Lurlene McDaniel's books are always centered on teenage girls which makes them seem more realistic and easy to relate to. I loved the first book in the Angels in Pink series and can't wait to read the second "Raina's Story."

Sweet and Funny, but Poor Ending,
By Jacob's Beloved (Alberta, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kathleen's Story (Angels in Pink) (Mass Market Paperback)
Even though this book is supposed to revolve around one of three best friends, Kathleen, I found that it was divided pretty evenly between the three girls. Kathleen's mother is afflicted with multiple sclerosis, which adds a human interest element to the plot that makes the reader sympathetic to Kathleen's struggles. This is also makes it quite understandable as to why Kathleen would be attracted to bad-boy Carson -- she lives such a controlled life that she needs some rebellion and unpredictability to make life more interesting.
The three girls volunteer for a program at the local hospital, called the Pink Angels. This makes for great background material as there is plenty of fodder for creating obstacles and conflicts. It was also somewhat familiar to me, thanks to what I've gone through with my youngest daughter's two hospital stays. My heart especially melted at one of the girl's interactions with a boy sick with cancer. The characters were not overly unique and some were more likable than others. What really bothered me the most was how the book ended -- it just sort of cuts off. I understand that this book is part of a trilogy, but as it attempts to focus on one particular character, Kathleen, the plot lines pertaining to her should be resolved.

This book isn't like other books. It's really a good book. If you haven't read it yet than I'll give a you a little summary. It's about a girl who's father died, and mother has a serious disease called MS. She also likes this boy but doesn't want to. It's kind of like a regular teens life. She has two best friends and they make sure that she's not constantly cooped up in her house. So they take her to a volunteer group. The rest is left up to you to read.
