Kathy Ireland gives you a quick warm up, 12 minutes of abs, 12 minutes of buttocks, and 12 minutes of thigh work. There's a countdown clock for each workout. During each workout, Kathy has you switch exercises every 45 seconds, which I think is great. No annoying rep-counting, and you can focus on working it hard and getting the burn because you know it will be over soon!

Most of the ab work is based on the traditional crunch, but Kathy uses enough variations to keep it fun -- and deady effective. I'm feeling this one DAYS later. The buns work involves some squats, some leg-lifting stuff, and a little floorwork, and it's pretty effective too. Though as always, you get out of it what you put into it.

The greatest aspect of the video for me, though, is the congenial atmosphere. Kathy seems so sweet, and her workout crew -- two guys, a girl, and Kathy's mom -- are nice companions for the workout. The guys will keep you giggling. They keep saying goofy stuff like "This one hurts." or "I'm gonna eat a big steak tonight." Kathy is a good M.C. and motivator, and she has a nice way of gracefully humoring those goofy guys. In this aspect, it's the most FUN I've ever had while doing a workout video. It captures the positive social aspects of working out in a class setting, but you get all the convenience and privacy of working out at home.

The VHS version is called Kathy Ireland: Body Specifics. This DVD has the same workouts, but it sure is nice to just select the workout you want from the menu instead of fast forwarding and rewinding all the time.

.... this time I was pleasantly surprised. Love the short sections as I get bored very easily. Can't believe how quickly the thigh section went when I did it either !!! Kathy Ireland seems like a really sweet girl and her body is certainly an inspiration to me as I huff and puff on the floor. I will be buying more. Thanks Kathy. It's so lovely to find a DVD that I feel like I can work through without getting lost.

This is a fantastic workout for a busy woman. I love the way Kathy splits up the abs, thighs and butt into 12 minute segments. They are short but effective because you are going the entire 12 minutes. I had this on VHS and I literally wore out the tape from so much use! I'm so excited that this is now on DVD and at such a reasonable price!

I first did the Core Basics before I got pregnant with my first. Once I was pregnant I was still able to do the thigh and butt workouts. My tape had already worn out by the time my second baby came around. Now my third is on the way and I'm about to order the DVD. This is such a great way for a busy mom to get in some good toning and core strengthening exercises. Use it as a part of your healthy lifestyle!

This is definitely at the top of my favourite exercise DVDs.

The three workouts are really effective. I find that 12 minutes each for abs, thighs and buns is quite easy to fit into anybody's hectic schedule. I could not get through the 12 minute ab workout the first few times I did it and I look like I'm in decent shape (5'1" and 115 lbs). The buns and thighs workout is really effective as well. If you do this workout 5 days a week you will see and feel the difference by the end of the month. Her 5 minute warm up and cool down really help to loosen up tired/worked out muscles.

I must say that I did not get past 10 minutes of her bonus yoga alternative though. I bought this DVD because I had the VHS version without the bonus yoga. The yoga is definitely relaxing though because I was getting very relaxed to the point of wanting to fall asleep after several minutes.

I love Kathy's personality. I have all her workout DVDs. This is my favourite of all her DVDs because she doesn't waste time in between moves and she's not so ditsy (she can be in her other DVDs if this is an issue for you). She does an excellent job of explaining each move and doing it at a pace where it's perfect for someone just learning the move, yet at a pace that's great for someone who is already familiar with the DVD. What I particularly love about the three work outs (12 minutes each of abs, buns, and thighs) is that you do the repetitions at your own pace; you do a certain move for a certain amount of time. And everyone in the video is doing their reps at a different pace from one another so you don't feel disappointed with yourself if you can't keep up with Kathy's pace.
