I have had this tape since 1994 and recommend it to all my friends as an awesome workout. Kathy does not waste my time with tricky choreography or 'combinations'. When I work out, I want to do just that. I appreciate that she steps for a few minutes in the beginner section before stopping to do stretches and it makes perfect sense why; When the muscle has warmed up...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not one of her best tapes
I love the Target and Tone tape by Kathy but this one is geared more towards absolute beginners or people with low expectations. It's not very well produced, it has a low budget look and feel. The celebs she works out with don't all have the best bods or the most interesting things to say while they sweat with Kathy. Kaehler's physique is really the only inspiring...

5.0 out of 5 stars Tried and true, April 23, 1999

I have had this tape since 1994 and recommend it to all my friends as an awesome workout. Kathy does not waste my time with tricky choreography or 'combinations'. When I work out, I want to do just that. I appreciate that she steps for a few minutes in the beginner section before stopping to do stretches and it makes perfect sense why; When the muscle has warmed up a bit first, you will acheive a more effective stretch than if you try and stretch a cold muscle. I also use the hand held weights for the step portions of the video as I find I can isolate my arm muscles better. On the occasion where I get bored (and anyone who has relied on one tape for 5 years will!) I simply blast my own music on the stereo and solve that little problem. Now that TaeBo has come out, I supplement that workout with Kathy as my energy level has skyrocketed. I love doing Kathy's step workout and won't ever replace it with one other type workout. I highly recommend this tape to anyone looking for a thorough and safe exercise program! All I want to know is when Kathy will come out with another step tape emphasizing the straddle step technique!!

5.0 out of 5 stars KATHY IS REAL and her fitnes routine provides REAL RESULTS!, April 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Kathy Kaehler Fitness System [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This tape is honestly like an old friend. Kathy's personality is down-to-earth, calm, confident, happy and very pleasant. I have used this tape since '94 and actually just ordered a 2nd as back-up in case the first wears out! I know the results I will get if I apply myself to this routine! I once read on Kaehler's website that a woman lost 85 lbs. using it! I believe it. Kathy has a sensible teaching style, flawless and smooth ques and her physique is REAL and admirable....she's not freaky thin. This tape is very well thought out and truly includes exercise for all levels. This tape is timeless. If you like step and doing floor toning work and you like to sweat so you know you're getting the most out of your workout time...give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great video for those with limited space!, September 23, 2000

I have a small apartment and little room to do areobics. This is a great video because all the moves are isolated to the step with little movement away from the step. Not to mention I love the fact the Jamie, Justine, and Julianne seem to struggle along with me. There's nothing worse then when you're dying trying to get through a workout and everyone on the video seems to make it look easy! UGH!

Now, I am not going to say to you that within the 12 years that I have used this tape that I continue to leave the sound up on it as I used to--I now use music of my own. (My sister and mother-in-law and I all have the tape and have memorized the dialogue, mimicking the conversations had by Kathy and her celebrities.) However, I employ this tape whenever I need to safely get into quick shape or as a supplement to my workouts at the gym. The movements are basic enough that I can do them almost in my sleep, adding weights and raising the step when necessary. I want this tape on DVD, so that it can travel with me!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Workout, Great Video, May 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Kathy Kaehler Fitness System [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have a lot of workout tapes, but if I had to choose just one, this would be it.

It's a great tape, with something for everyone. Kathy breaks the step portion into beginner, intermediate and advanced, but even a beginner can follow the entire step program all the way through on the floor, without weights or the step, to get a good, solid 50 minute fat-burning workout.

Kathy includes segments on push ups, sit ups, arm weights, leg work and stretches. Each is very effective. You can add these segments onto the the aerobic portion on alternating days, or according to your energy level. Doing the standing weights every other day and the sit ups daily (in addition to the step part daily) gave me excellent, visible results in just two weeks.

Best of all, Kathy seems like a person you'd want as a friend. Some of the other best-known personalities can be annnoying on a regular basis -- I find Denise Austin too hyper and too darn chipper to take in large doses. But I can do my Kathy Kaehler tape every day.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, August 1, 2002
By A Customer

This is by far the best workout video I've ever had. Kathy is a great instructor. The celebrity guests are good too, but sometimes don't always follow the correct form when doing the exercises, so watch Kathy! The video starts with beginning step which is 20 minutes. I've been doing it for a month and am still in the beginning stage, but it's getting easier. Then there is an intermediate step (15 mins) and advanced step (15 mins). As a beginner, I do the beginning step for 20 mins. and then fast forward to the strength training section. Here you'll work your arms then legs then stomach and then finish up with some stretching. This video is easy enough for a beginner to follow but challenging enough for others. In the step sequence, even if you can't keep up the same pace as Kathy does, you can still do all the moves and work up to getting faster. She gives good directions so you always know what's coming up next. I've had lots of other videos and this is the first one that I actually look forward to doing! This is the first time that I've stuck with one video for a whole month and I don't get bored with it or feel frustrated by it because I can't do the moves. It will take a while for me to get up the advanced step part, so I know I'll get a lot of use from this video for a while yet. And the best part is, I'm starting to see results, especially in my arms, which helps to keep you motivated. This one really works and it's fun!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Kathy Kaehler Fitness System, September 26, 2001

This tape is absolutely one of my most used and definitely one of my all-time favorites. It is a great tape for beginners and for getting back into exercising and is easily manipulated to follow your fitness level.

I always notice with this tape when I have advanced to another fitness level.

Also, it is designed to be as difficult as you could possibly need it to be with about 45 minutes of aerobics broken down into 3 segments. With the option of using hand-held weights and raising the step, this routine really gets my heart pumping and breathing hard without a lot of difficult steps/routines.

The floor work is awesome and I am always so pleased when I can do the entire tape (for I know I have worked every bit of my body).

I use the beginner's section when I want to warm up for a run or get my heart pumping for a second time later in the day. I do not have any other tapes in my library that even come close to Kathy Kaehler's Fitness System tape and I would be lost without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, January 24, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Kathy Kaehler Fitness System [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This tape is truly outstanding in its genre, and the number of five star reviews it earns here is a testament to its effectiveness. Ms. Kaehler is an exceptional, thorough and inspiring instructor with a level headed, calm delivery, and the celebrities on this tape provide wonderful motivation. It's a thorough, full body workout that can be broken into segments, or done all at once.

The moves are challenging for all levels, and are uncomplicated, well cued and carefully explained. And I'm glad to see that Ms. Kaehler and her star pupils break a sweat, and that they aren't loaded with makeup and jewelry, or decked out in the latest expensive designer gear. Aside from a step and some weights, you don't need a lot of equipment or space. And most important, it gets results if you stick to it; however, the lunges can be tough on your knees if you have problems with them, as I do.

I've been using this tape, along with Cher's first exercise video, for over ten years, and they are by far the best of their type.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Jump start video for low motivation, December 2, 2002

I don't know what it is about Kathy Kaehler. She has a calming effect on me even when I'm sweating to one of her videos. I do exercise videos as an alternative to getting outside or even going to the gym, so when I REALLY need some motivation I use this video. The first section gets my blood pumping enough to get me out of a funk or make me feel better if I have been sick. I have used the beginning portion of this video when I had a shoulder injury - I just modified the arm movements. What's cool is that you can progress with each section- the intermediate really is intermediate, and even though I'm fairly athletic, the advanced portion is challenging enough. My only criticisms are that the music is a little cheesy (I turn the volume way down) and some of the concepts they discuss are a little dated. The upper body toning portion with Penelope Ann Miller is annoying- she seems kind of wimpy to me. I wish Kathy would make more videos.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Exercise Video You'll Ever Need, June 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Kathy Kaehler Fitness System [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have a number of video workouts and this is by far my favorite. There is cardio for beginners, intermediate, and advanced. There is a strength training section for abs, arms , and legs (the last part of the legs section is killer...in a good way of course!!). And last but not least, a stretching section.
As one reviewer mentioned, each section is done with Kathy and only one other celebrity participant, which is less distracting than watching a whole class, and I believe makes it all that much easier to follow. I especially like the beginning cardio section with Kathy and Jamie Gertz. Jamie seems to totally empathize with the beginner.
I am not one who likes to exercise, but Kathy makes it easy (you do not a degree in dance for this one), and doable. The equipment needs are minimal (a step, small weights, comfy sneakers and clothes, and a mat (which I consider optional)). All of the bases are covered in one convenient volume. It may seem dated...but is truly the best all purpose exercise tape out there...I hope it will be available on DVD.
