This review is from: Kathy Smith - Aerobox Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have to admit - when I first bought this video when it first came out in 1994 - I did it once and placed it back on to my video shelf. I didn't do it again until four years later. By that time I've develop a somewhat of a regular workout routine. (I try to workout regularly - try to, at least)

This video came out pre-Tae Bo and find this more effective and well-designed. It's a tough workout. Not even Kathy is in the later segements led by veteran boxer, Michael Olajide. The first time I did it after so many years, I ached the next day. But a good ache. My muscles woke up. I personally, dislike most aerobic routines out there and am always reluctant to do much-needed cardio workouts. This workout is fun and different. You'll feel energize once getting into the routine. As always, Kathy makes sure you understand and know correct form before doing the workout. But the workout is pretty much not lead by Kathy. She knows that Michael is the main developer of the routine and knows what he's doing as he takes the lead.

If you're not quite up to this, try Kathy's new Kickboxing workout. I don't like it as much as this one except for the actual kickboxing segement. But overall, that the Kickboxing video follows a more reliable routine. Aerobox is just more well-produced.

Luckily, after I viewed this video, I was able to return it due to a defect. I found this video to be potentially harmful to the body. You may have heard that the possibility of sustaining an injury from kickboxing is high, well the Aerobox video may cause worse damage. The instructor is good (Kathy Smith does not instruct the video), but his punches are way too fast and they put alot of pressure on the joints. There is the real potential of injuring your joints. Also, aside from the jump rope segments, there is no leg work. Many of the punches are the same ones used in Kathy Smith's Kickboxing Workout video. I do have to give credit to the jump rope segments. They are pretty good, but if you want a total body workout that is a litte gentler on your joints, gives you a total body workout, and works you legs, try Kathy Smith's Kickboxing Workout video. I have been cardio kickboxing for about a year now and I love her kickboxing video. You can up the intensity, sweat, burn alot of calories and fat, and lower risk of possible injury.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Fun and Exhilerating!, October 5, 1999
This review is from: Kathy Smith - Aerobox Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! I'm still performing the moves without the jumprope, but I'm STILL seeing incredible results in my body! My bottom and my stomach look awesome and I feel incredibly strong and stable. This video is fun and challenging and will get you in shape within a few workouts if you keep with it. I rotate this with yoga and walking and I'm FEELING SO FINE!

3.0 out of 5 stars Intense and tough workout, May 11, 2001

This review is from: Kathy Smith - Aerobox Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this workout because I LOVE Kathy Smith's Kickboxing workout. This workout is definately intended for intermediate and even more towards advanced level exercisers. Michael Olajide, Jr. leads the workout, not Kathy. His instructions are unclear at times, and the camera angles constantly change as well as it switches from black and white to color, which doesn't help either. This workout requires a high level of endurance it is very likely that even regular exercisers will not make it through the whole workout the first few times. The other part that I found tough about this workout is that a large portion of it is committed to jumping rope, something that I found difficult to do in the living room, and imposible to do outside while being led by the video. While the workout can be done without the rope, you are then just pretending to jumprope witch I feel comprimises what is to be gotten out of the workout. The jumprope portion is divided into three separate sets, each being harder than the one before. By the third set even Kathy has dropped out, no where to be found. This workout is an excellent video for anyone looking for a challenging workout that is not trying to accomodate beginners. The next day my calves were so tight and sore that I had to do yoga stretching to just walk normal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding workout!!!!!, August 17, 1999

This review is from: Kathy Smith - Aerobox Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This strikes me as a tape for those who are relatively hardcore and don't need cheerleaders and motivational gems from the instructor. This is a no-nonsense, go 'til you hurt workout. You will get better with practice, and those incremental improvements will hopefully be motivation enough. At the outset, the producers tell you that this is an advanced tape, so the difficulty should come as no surprise. It will take some practice and effort to learn the moves, but the payoff is well worth it. Speaking for myself (Blanks fans, please don't hit the ceiling), I found this more difficult and more fun than advanced tae-bo. Does anyone really seriously care if Kathy Smith doesn't lead the video, as long as the workout is a good one?

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!, May 23, 2002

This review is from: Kathy Smith - Aerobox Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
...Can I just say WOW! again? What an awesome workout! I have been looking for an advanced/challenging video, and this is definitely it! I really love Kathy Smith's video's. Her knowedge, instruction, and personality are all super and she really gets you moving.
In this tape M. Olajide, Jr. really is the leader, and I found him to be extremely knowledgable and personable. I enjoyed his direction and got so much more out of this video because I followed his instructions. Kathy chimes in or reinterates important points in an effective way so all the bases are covered. There are 3 four minute long jump rope sections that are killer! I thought I could skip rope very well-but I had to stop several times to catch my breath. I love this because it gives me something to shoot for. I strongly recommend this video for the advanced exerciser looking for a superior cardio and toning video. My upper body and torso was pleasantly sore the next day, and the jump rope and footwork sequences are lower and total body toners. Take your time learning the correct form... and enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Kickboxing!, May 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Kathy Smith - Aerobox Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This workout is much better than Kathy Smith's Kickboxing workout. It includes more advanced boxing moves and footwork, including great jump rope segments. Plus, the cueing is great and the music energizing. I would highly recommend this workout over kickboxing - it always leaves me drenched in sweat, yet feeling so strong and awesome!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good exercise but distracting production, April 3, 2000
This review is from: Kathy Smith - Aerobox Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Overall I think it would be a good work out tape. But I found it very distracting the fast changing pictures, changing color from black and white back to color, using different angles. I couldn't focus. So now this tape is sitting on my shelf unused.

3.0 out of 5 stars very hard, February 14, 2003

I absolutely LOVE Kathy Smith and I own every one of her workout videos.
I have to say that I don't care for this particular one. The routine doesn't flow smoothly, in my opinion.

Try her 'Kickboxing' video with Keith Cooke. I really like that one and it's fun.

I absolutely love this tape. I have a lots of exercise tapes, but this is one of the best. I have been doing the tape everyday (for a couple of months now) for 1 hour each evening and I have already lost 30 lbs. I love that my legs and arms are really toning up and that I am now actually getting my waistline back.
