In search of an effective yet fun pregnancy video, I came across this one from 1989 (not 1993 as stated). The background music and some moves seem outdated. It is not as good as the more recently released Leisa Hart's Fit Mama video, but it has some merit. Here is a summary:INTRODUCTION (12 min) - Kathy first tells you what to expect in her video. The graphic presentation of Kegels and her discussion of proper posture are beneficial, as is her list of warning signs. But the interviews with a professor of OB, a hospital doc, and a childbirth expert are BORING! I suffered through it only once, then set my video counter to zero. ENERGIZER WARMUP (10 min) - The warmup includes deep breathing, marching, lunging, Kegels, and pelvic tilts. Kathy checks body alignment twice and shows a modification to her routine. AEROBICS I (6 min) - If you like arm movement, you'll enjoy this section! Good camera closeup of the footwork for the grapevine move. Takes 10-second Target Heart Rate check. AEROBICS II (5 min) - Kathy explains how to increase or lower your intensity level. RAP SONG (<1 min) - The "Prego Shuffle"?! What was Kathy thinking? The lyrics are posted on the screen as if you would want to rap along (HA!). AEROBICS III (5 min) - More arm choreography. One participant is continually cut off camera. Kathy doesn't always demonstrate a move before it is performed. Fortunately her participants have the routine memorized, but it was a pain for me to try to follow. STANDING LEG WORK (7 min) - Best part of the video. Calf raises, lunges, squats, Kegels, etc. Kathy walks around giving pointers. ARM WORK (5 min) - Kathy is still walking and talking instead of working. One participant uses handweights. ABDOMINALS (8 min) - Shows five positions acceptable for pregnant women. COOL DOWN (8 min) - Cat stretches and more Kegels.

I am the mother of 5 children, and I used this workout during all of my pregancies. It is a wonderful way to not only keep in shape, but to also feel better about yourself.

Pretty good,

I think this tape is pretty good. It gives you an all over workout and safty pointers so you dont over do it. I think the goofy blocks and bears are a little much, and I take time to get a drink during the Preggo Shuffle (a really bad rap song for testing your intensity level). But over all I fell like I get a work out, my heartrate gets to the level it is supposed to be at, and its keeping my shape good (in my legs, anyways!). Before my pregnancy I worked out 6 days a week for about an hour a day, so it's not quite what Im used to, but thats why its a pregnancy video. I like the Buns of Steele pregnancy workout a little better, its alot like this one but not goofy, I switch back and fourth between the two.

A great overall workout!,

A few weeks ago I purchased two pregnancy workout videos - this one and the Jane Fonda pregnancy workout. In my opinion, the Kathy Smith video is better by far! The Jane Fonda video DOES NOT have aerobics on it, but is mostly stretching and strengthening and many of the moves were too advanced for me to do. The Kathy Smith video DOES have an aerobic section as well as individual leg, arm, and abdominal strengthening sections. The moves were not too difficult and I was able to do them the first time. I also appreciated the heart rate checks throughout the aerobic workout. These checks were able to reassure me that my heart rate wasn't going too high for the baby. I am very happy with this video, and I highly recommend it as a great overall workout for a pregnant woman!

I love this video.I put on alot of wieght with my first child and I wanted to keep it down with this one, where we live you cant just take a walk and gyms are to exspencive.I was very nervous about doing a work out routine in my pregnancy because I had miscarried last year.My doctor recommended this video to me and I love it! It helps me sleep good at night and gives me energy during the day to be with my son.I break it into to parts. Its an awsome video I reccomend it to anyone who is looking for a stress relife and to help them feel better about themselves while being pregnant.

A great workout for pregnant mommies,

I only gave it four stars because I felt there could of been at least one more workout song added (there are three, four if you count the warm-up). But compared to other pregnancy workout tapes this one was longer and had a better upbeat pace helping you to get a better cardio workout. Modifications were given for toning exercises based on how pregnant you are as well as comfort level. Music was definitely dated but considering how long ago this video was made, 1989, it's still a great workout for someone who was at an immediate exercise level before pregnancy.

hopefully it's a honest mistake, but how would you miss exact date of video? should have been "1989" not "1993".
