5.0 out of 5 stars An unexpected, delightful, little walking energizer!!!, September 18, 2010

This review is from: Kathy Smith Walking for Fitness Kit (Sports)
I was interested in this walking kit and searched the web over for a review that actually talked about the walk. I didn't find anything to shed any insight into what this walk was really like. I found a video clip of it on You Tube and, despite the fact that it didn't look too exciting to me, I went ahead an bought the kit. I am so glad I did! The video preview of this walk does NOT do it justice! It does not capture the workout at all!! I was delightfully surprised by this really upbeat, fun energizer! Kathy is constantly changing up the moves so you never get bored; however, those with 2 left feet shouldn't have too much trouble following along as the moves are always very basic steps. I am a huge fan of Leslie Sansone and use her workouts on a daily basis. I would say that Kathy's indoor walk has the intensity of a Leslie workout (maybe a little bit more, or more like Leslie's newer walks); however, the steps are very different. If you want to try something different for a little more variety, I really think this walking workout delivers! Kathy is like your personal coach...kind of like Debbie Rocker only the walk is much better than Debbie's, as Debbie does too much marching in place! Kathy does a little bit of "the matrix" in this walk...during a segment of the walk...I haven't done her matrix walk in a long time, so I can't really compare this one...although I really think that this by far Kathy's best approach to indoor walking. I love how she incorporates the weights, especially how she incorporates it in the "matrix" segment. It's so much fun and feels so good!! I love the 1.5 lb. weights...they are the perfect amount to just give you a little extra boost. If it feels too simple, just bump up the weights...but I wouldn't use more than 3 lb. weights while doing cardio. This is supposed to be the equivalent of a 2 mile walk, but I'd count it for 2.25 miles. There isn't much of a warm-up and the cool down is almost non-existent. Keeping that in mind, along with the intensity, I think this is at least a 2.25 mile walk...not sure if I'd bump it up to 2.5...maybe if you added jogging during the few interval boosts she incorporates in the walk as well as in other places...but I think you can safely count this as a 2.25 mile walk. I think this walk may be a little too intense for someone totally new to exercise. You definitely would want to start without the weights, do as much as you are able too, and then work up to it. For intermediate/advanced walkers and exercisers, you can use 3 lb. weights and incorporate jogging. I received the kit yesterday and after doing the walk it gave me the energy boost I needed to then go on and do a total of 7 miles of aerobic walking. Love it...totally a surprise because I didn't expect to be that impressed, but I am!!! Thanks Kathy! Oh, and this part of her new line of products called "Rejuvenation"...makes me interested in trying out some of the other ones :) Oh! One more thing...the music...it's all instrumental...it's nothing super exciting but I think it's pretty good...very upbeat...If you're a regular DVD exerciser, you'll notice the music from other workouts...like at the end there's the music from Leslie's WATP Express series :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Kathy Smith Walking Video, January 13, 2011

The Pedometer kept good track of steps, but it was plastic and broke within 3 weeks when I was getting a suitcase out of my car and the suitcase hit the pedometer. The weights aren't that great either. They don't stay wrapped properly and you really have to 'squeeze'. Now, the video is AWESOME. Kathy spices things up with different moves from other walk videos, such as Leslie Sansone, whom I like, but Leslie seems to incorporate the same moves in every tape. I actually sweat to this video. Awesome buy and good price. It came quickly from the person I bought from in great condition!

I bought this as a gift, and my mom loved it. It comes with everything in the package, which isn't true of other workout DVDs.

I purchased this for my mom, but wanted to try it out for myself. I was very surprised that I was as pleased as I was with this workout. I've worked out to Kathy's Matrix DVD. I enjoy the Matrix; however, Kathy is somewhat annoying and too wired. She is a lot more calm in the Walking for Fitness DVD. On an average, I workout 5 times a week. I must say that I was able to work up a good sweat by increasing my level of intensity during this workout. This DVD was a refreshing change from Leslie Sansone. Kathy's set of arm workouts and squats are just enough. Leslie can talk so much that she will sometimes forget how many you've done.

As stated before, this is a very good DVD. For me, the 1.5 lb set of weights wasn't enough, but that is not a show-stopper. I will purchase this DVD for myself (hate to not give my mom hers as planned) and use a heavier set of dumbbells. The ONLY thing that I didn't like about this DVD is the length of time. It would have been great to see Walking for Fitness in 1 or 2 mile segments, totaling at least 4 miles on the DVD. Thirty minutes just wasn't long enough for such a good DVD. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the workout and would highly recommend it.
