Book Description

PRAISE FOR LEWIS GRIZZARD

“So this is what’s happened to the South since William Faulkner left! Lewis Grizzard, a great American, gives us the best collection of stories about a mother’s love, old folks, railroad trains, going home, and the No-Name Bar in Willacoochee, Georgia.”
- The Chicago Sun-Times

“If you’ve ever owned a truck, a good dog, or had to kiss a good woman good-bye, you need to be reading Lewis Grizzard.”
- United Press International

“Funny and touching ... Grizzard disperses common wisdom, common humor and common sense. Common to all of us.”
- Atlanta Journal-Constitution

“[A] TRIED AND TRUE SOURCE OF LAUGHTER...Readers will find some of his humor wry, some wistful, some sly, some indignant. But reading his comments is like having a chat with an old friend, with intervals of belly laughs.”
- Richmond Times-Dispatch

“Grizzard can make you laugh from the belly and a moment later you will suddenly get misty ... one way or another, his writing will touch you.”
- The San Diego Union-Tribune

5.0 out of 5 stars I Miss this wit March 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read other books by this author and was never disappointed. This book is no exception. He has brought laughs from me that have had those sitting near me look at me oddly. very funny, well written and once started, you won't stop. But when finished you will want more. Try his other books, like Shoot low, they're riding Shetland Ponies or Don't bend over in the Garden Granny, them potatoes Have Eyes. This author died way too young and left a hole in my funny bone filler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miss you Lewis! March 22, 2012

It must be at least 25 years since I first read this book, Kathy Sue Loudermilk, I Love You: A good beer joint is hard to find and other facts of life, so long that I certainly don't remember any details. The late Lewis Grizzard was gone much too soon but will always live on the hearts of this long time fan and AJC reader. He was warm, funny, irreverent at times and a true son of the south. If you enjoy humor, particularly southern humor, don't miss getting to know Lewis Grizzard. He was one of a kind. We still miss you, Lewis!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like to laugh, you'll love Lewis Grizzard March 23, 2012

Love everything Lewis Grizzard ever wrote and will not delete this one from my Kindle. He's always, always laugh out loud funny and to this day I order fried eggs ala Lewis - I tell the waitress I want the yolks to crawl, not run.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Icon at the Top of his Game March 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Lewis Grizzard had issues: political Issues, social issues, health issues, relationship issues, alcohol issues. He was a very imperfect man with views that not many would agree with today. He also had a singular talent: Using the stuffy, serious Atlanta Constitution (Now the AJC) to make people laugh. If you are from anywhere near Atlanta, and you are over about 30 years old, you probably know Lewis and his good-ole boy comedy, expressed in his daily column, stage shows, and even a guest appearance on Designing Women. In this volume of short essays, originally printed in his newspaper column, he is at the top of his game, recounting the funnier aspects of his youth in rural Coweta County, career is the newspaper industry, observations of Chicago (where he lived for a while), and Atlanta the way it used to be. For a metro Atlanta native like me, it's full of familiar territory and the type of nostalgia best seen through rose-colored glasses. I'm sure he had many years of humor writing left in him when he passed away from heart disease at the tender age of 47. He did manage to leave us with an awful lot of laughs before he left us way too soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple truths. March 30, 2012
By P. Rice
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read an occasional column penned by Lewis Grizzard over the years, but what a delight to find "Kathy Sue Loudermilk, I Love You", his first book, offered on Kindle. His wit, wisdom and observations flow easily through the loosely woven threads of the sections of the books. Grizzard had a delightful ability to turn a phrase which was so illustrative you got a clear picture of the scenario he was painting with words. Like a song running constantly through your mind, his images and characterizations of those he encountered through his early career as journalist and columnist stay with you and keep you entertained long after you put the book/Kindle down. I look forward to reading his other books as they are re-released.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read April 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I truly enjoyed reading this collection. If you are looking for a collection of nothing but humorous writings I would suggest you read another of his books. There are some articles that are funny but many of them are not. You will experience Grizzard's love of trains, love of the South, and all of his feelings on man.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laughs and tears March 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was my introduction to Lewis Grizzard, and I found this book full of essays that warm the heart. I especially liked the columns about railroads since my own childhood was full of trains. Lewis's thoughts about love also were well worth reading, and some of the obit pieces were enough to bring tears to my eyes.
