I was reluctant to begin The Walnut Ridge series. In reality, how could an author compete with the first series, Miracle at Valley Rise? Well, Karen Welch has done it again. This book makes the reader feel like they are a guest at the Lodge and all the characters are friends. My family is dealing with cancer treatments right now and I desperately needed a nice and easy getaway. I feel more rested now that I've visited with Tess and Peter. A very nice escape for a few minutes each day. The only negative is that I now have to WAIT for book two. Keep up the good work Karen Welch. You are amazing!

Loved it! A modern twist on "Persuasion". Lots of love, lots of heartache, a bit of suspense as history and flashbacks unfold. Great character development, and I was glad to see the story from both Tess's and Peter's point of view. I appreciated the love and desire, and glad for appropriateness--no pornographic sex scenes described here! That's great! Great solid love story, along with living through a difficult past and making a great life and success out of heartache.

I got to a point where the book started to drag --- I found myself speed readijng over pages and pages of the same-o-same-o. I thought it was too much like watching a tennis match - Katie's battle with yes she will, no she won't..... got kind of tiresome. But I liked the end results. I was kind of worried there for a moment that Jan(Peter) would die from his injuries. I wouldn't not pass it along to a friend. Sorry.

I really enjoyed reading this book and hated to see it end. I stayed up long after I should have turned out the light because I was anxious to see what was going to happen next. The story flows easily from a well thought out plot. The characters and the locations are clearly defined and beautifully described. I felt like I knew the people and was living the story with them. There is conflict, resolutions, romance and enough angst that kept me turning the pages to read " just one more page". No smutty language; no pornographic sex scenes, no cliffhanger ending! WOW! What a concept! Kudos to the author, Karen Welch, for writing a very engrossing adult book with a good story line that didn't rely on foul language and overt sex scenes to sell the book. I'm looking forward to reading more about Walnut Lodge and all the interesting people who work and visit there. 5 Stars!

I really liked this book. The story was very real, with very real situations and characters. The heroine Tess is a widow and she owns a hotel. Peter is recently divorced and starting over in his life. Fate gets them back together after 16 years, to him Tess is the "one that got away". Many secrets and family dynamics and betrayals play into the story. Loved the plot and the twists and how the characters get themselves together. The ending is not unexpected, but still leaves you warm and fuzzy.

An enjoyable and easy read. I thought the characters were well thought out and the author made them real to me. I loved the way you could almost see and feel the see the grounds, people and their emotions. Karen Welch is an amazing author and I will be reading more of her works. I enjoy books that when I'm finished I feel it was like visiting friends, and this book did that.

Karen Welch did a good job with this book! Tess seemed a bit stiff at times, her Ying and Yang was tiring, but wonderful Jan Pieter had enough patience to handle her. I am glad they did find each other again for a happily ever after. I liked that this book was a complete book without any cliffhangers to buy the next installment. I can recommend this read.
