Katie Melua has firmly established herself among the ranks of international music stars with her unique and unmistakable style. One of Britain's most successful female singers of the past decade, Katie has sold more than 10 million albums with multi-platinum awards in 13 countries. Born in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, Katie and her family moved to Belfast before settling in Surrey where Katie attended the Brit School for the Performing Arts. Having signed to Mike Batt's independent record label Dramatico while still at school, Katie's first two albums - 'Call Off The Search' and 'Piece By Piece' - both became international number ones with singles such as `The Closest Thing To Crazy' and `Nine Million Bicycles' becoming airplay hits around the world. By the release of her third album `Pictures', in 2007, Katie was the biggest-selling UK-based, female artist in the world. Her current album `The House' has received some of the finest reviews of her career and gave Katie another European number 1 record.
In addition to the phenomenal success of her records, Katie has enjoyed many special experiences - including several massive world tours, receiving numerous awards, playing on stage for Nelson Mandela with the band Queen, dining at Buckingham Palace with The Queen, performing a gig at the bottom of the North Sea and walking the Great Wall of China. Internationally respected as an advocate for environmental protection and charitable activities, Katie recently became the brand ambassador for Vauxhall/Opel's ecological initiatives and their revolutionary electric car Ampera.
