4.0 out of 5 stars A wild ride on a wagon train, December 19, 2008
This review is from: Katie Sue: Heading West (The Eleanor Series, Book 3) (Hardcover)
Eleven-year-old Katie Sue is loving life in Tennessee. Over dinner her Papa tells a story of a family that went west on a wagon train, all the way to Texas. Katie Sue doesn't think she'd like that much: a lot of dust, being in the wagon for weeks, no place to wash. But one night her Papa comes in to talk with her before she goes to bed. He tells her that he has been called to move to Texas and start a church. And when the Lord calls, a man should listen.

The next few months are spend preparing to move away. Katie Sue doesn't want to leave. She loves Tennessee and her best friend Matilda lives there. Still, there is nothing Katie Sue can do but ask the Lord for peace and trust him.

Katie Sue makes new friends on the wagon train and learns new traveling songs. She even gets to cross the mighty Mississippi. But life is hard. Yellow Fever takes the life of some of the travelers and Katie Sue wonders if they'll even make it to Texas alive.

This was a sweet story in a similar style to a Laura Ingalls Wilder book. I enjoyed reading about the history of a wagon train adventure through the eyes of a young girl. This is a great book for younger readers who are looking for an entertaining historical read.
