About the Author

Long time fan of anything vampire and paranormal, artist, designer and married to my highschool sweetheart. I have two grown children and spend everyday researching and writing. My characters are always strong female heroines, much needed today.

More About the Author

I grew up in a small northern Minnesotan town, married my high school sweetheart, had two beautiful children and as soon as we could, we moved to a warmer climate. I have worked with my husband building and decorating custom homes for years. After loving every kind of vampire book, movie, and series, I decided that I wanted to know more. I can write a book I thought, how hard can that be? Well....very hard. But I stuck to it and finished my first book Royal Blood Chronicles Book One, Katrina, The Beginning, in August 2009. There are now ten books in that series; The Protectors, The Dark Prince, Cain, the Quest, Bloodline and Legacy, Redemption and Destiny, and book nine Sabine, with book ten- Power of the Secret.

I've also started to write mystery/suspense contemporary adult romances under my E.L. Loraine brand. The first release was Corporate Ties, A Silken Ties Novel. A second Silken Ties Novel Thorns of Revenge is now available with a third to be released later this year. Adding to the genres I write are the Horror novels I wrote with Tim Frasier. The Pathogen series is post Apocalyptic and another wild ride with three novels in the series so far...Pathogen, Mutations and Factions.

The feedback has been great. I have also released Phantom Lives - Collier, and new paranormal series, book two of that series Phantom Lives - Power, book three to be out around Christmas. I also have just published book one of my Shifter Chronicles - Green River. My parents always told me that I could do anything that I wanted, work hard, study, and do it right. I believe that and live that way every day.

I started writing this new vampire series for teens and their moms because I myself wanted something different to read. I was tired of all the modern versions of vampire books, there had to be more to these long lived beings. Where had they been, what had they seen? I wanted, no I NEEDED to know more so Royal Blood Chronicles was born! Strong female characters and action and adventure mixed with romance, friendship and a historical backdrop. Phantom Lives continues with another strong female charater, which is very important to me. Phantom Lives is a modern day, paranormal romance, filled with mystery, magical places and beings. Follow Katrina in this beginning tale of the Royal Blood Chronicle series. Katrina, the Beginning is told in the point of view of a young seventeen year old vampire named Katrina. The story takes place in the 1800s and although the Royals have their own servants that tend to their beck and call, the characters are still very compassionate and unselfish towards their staff and watchers. Of course, Katrina would never ever consider them staff but rather family. She discovers new friendships that are more important than she would ever have imagined. Katrina is a strong protagonist and is very easy to love. Hmm It seems like every male character becomes infatuated with her with in the small time of meeting her. She faces first time romance, enemies, and never ending adventure. Katrina realizes that she has a purpose and must learn to strengthen her gifts with her new companions.
I have to admit that I have been trying to finish this first review of the first book for over a week now. I have been writing a little.. saving... and then returning to write a lil' more. Why? Well, the honest truth is that I have loved this series so much that I have been unable to put the continuing books of this series. However, I have been trying very hard to review the book as soon as I finish it but Elizabeth Loraine has done a wonderful job at ending each book in a manner that makes you dive into the next book with the wonder at what will possibly happen next.
This is my first series that I have read of Elizabeth Loraine's books. I was very impressed with her story telling. I really enjoyed the fact that Katrina, The Beginning took place in the 1800s. It was nice to experience the mannerisms, fashion attire, and social events that the Royals are able to take part in.

This was a fun take on vampires, the story was unusual and it kept my interest.
I was really intrigued by the concept of a royal family of vampires and I really wanted to see how the author would portray them and what their world would be like.

And while the concept was a good one I do wish there would have been just a little more world building involved. I never did get a good idea in which time period this book took place. We get a feel that it is set around the 1700's when immigrants were first going to the America's but nothing is ever said for sure. I did enjoy the descriptions of the gowns and balls and the mansions that they lived in. It had an almost Renaissance feel to it. Something that I think anyone who loves historical fiction would appreciate for sure.

The character building was pretty good, although there were a few things that bothered me, like the insta in love, insta out of love scenes but, that is pretty common any more in the YA genre so it didn't distract too much from the story.

This book did have a lot of action in it but it also had a few slow spots as well that dragged just a little.

Overall, this was a fun read and a good first book in a series. It will be very interesting to see where the author takes the storyline and the lives of the characters from here.

I would definitely give the next book in the series a chance.

I rate this one 3 Stars!

I'd like to thank Author Elizabeth Loraine for the wonderful "GIFT" of her novel Katrina, The Beginning (Royal Blood Chronicles)!! I've been lucky enough lately to be able to finally get hold of some of the books that have been on my TBR or wish list through some amazing authors. KATRINA being one of them, now to follow is my fair and unbiased opinion after reading Katrina.

Katrina is being told from the POV of a young seventeen year old royal vampire, of course her name is "Katrina" as the title of the book represents.

Taking place in the 1800's, an era by the way that I absolutely loved in history.. The elegant fashions, old school manners, (so lacking now a days) and the many huge grand social balls or events that always seem to take place in the upper circle. And with her family being of royal blood, comes one of the luxuries of having you own staff/servants who tend to their every wish or need. (although their staff was treated like family)

Katrina and her family also have "Watchers" who keep them safe and trained them expertly in the arts of battle.
The Vox Brothers, seven in all were very loyal and trust worthy... Avery, Cedrik, Gregor, Gunter, Simon, Thomas and Quinn. (Unfortunately Cedrik and Gregor were killed in battle)

Katrina face sadness, love, (first time) adventure and enemies all within this great book. She knows that she has a purpose in life, and therefore she knows she must do everything possible to strengthen herself physically as well as her gifts. (Gunter helps her achieve this as her trainer) Gunter also help train Katrina's friends/companions Letta, Rosa and El.

The daily routine of her life, from bathing , feedings all the way to her training was such a new take in some ways.

From the beginning to the end this book had me turning pages and attempting to guess what was going to happen just to be stunned that what I had originally thought was going to happen was way off and turned out better than I had thought. Amazing book, and definitely worth reading again.

I would just like to ask readers a few questions.
I will admit, I am drawn and repulsed by cover art. It is very important to me. I have not read some really good books simply due to the cover art. I know, don't judge a book by it's cover, but for me, this is part of the attraction.
