5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read, January 13, 2010
This review is from: Kats Tales - Journeys Into the Velvet Darkness: Revealed Evil (Paperback)
I purchased this little gem of a book about the first week of December 2009. Since that time, I have read all thirteen stories at least twice. I found myself thinking about the words Kat Yares has put down to paper. The overall theme and the stories themselves come back into my brain, which is not a bad thing. Whenever I can pick up a book, read those words, and it leaves a strong impression; I feel it is money and time extremely well spent. I inquired more on the works of Kat Yares and found she is soon to be releasing a Radio Style Play on Audio CD. You can bet I will be first in line to purchase that as well.

This collection of short stories was a great read from cover to cover. The twists in her stories kept me guessing, always a surprise to the last sentence.

Each story is delectably different from the others, like taking a cream filled chocolate from a box and waiting for the flavors to melt on your tongue. One of my favorites is, The Ridge. Like bon-bons, you keep going back for one more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even if you don't typically read horror..., September 22, 2009

Give this a try.

Journeys Into the Velvet Darkness: Revealed Evil" is a collection of short stories, exploring the darker side of human nature. They are Edgar Allen Poe with an O. Henry twist.

It's a pleasure to have bite-size stories. Each one kept me captivated until the end, wondering what was going to happen. Some endings I saw coming-- though never in quite the way I expected-- and some took me completely by surprise. Part of the fun of these stories was trying to guess, and the surprise always waiting at the end.

I'm not typically a reader of horror, but I think this book will appeal to a far greater audience than that label suggests. I highly recommend it

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love short, dark stories, this book is for you., September 19, 2009
This review is from: Kats Tales - Journeys Into the Velvet Darkness: Revealed Evil (Paperback)
These stories touch upon taboo topics that few authors are brave enough to address, but I am extremely glad this author decided to. If you are a fan of dark, evil stories, this book should ultimately find a home on your bedstand.

I was delighted by the stories I found in this book, each delivered in a short and sweet fashion that allowed me to read one each night just before bed. There was something very satisfying about a 100 page book that lasted me well over a week by reading a short story here and a short story there. And there are a few stories that I will surely reread again on those dark stormy nights that are just perfect for a book like this.

I hope you all enjoy!
