2.0 out of 5 stars Huh? September 15, 2012
By Kim S.
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was the first time I have read a book like this and this book was weird to me. First off I was not sure if it was taking place in the US or somewhere else. Then there were the editing mistakes. I never understood the why behind Usagi's wanting to be cartoon character.

1.0 out of 5 stars seriously disappointed January 31, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I very rarely give one stars, but this one earned it.

When I downloaded this book it was called Seducing the Weeaboo. (A weeaboo being a person who is obsessed with Japan/Japanese Culture/Anime and tries to act as if they're Japanese, even though they're not.) And if memory serves, it had a girl in a Lolita-style dress on the cover. (The story actually further defines her attire as Gothic Lolita. Think lots of ruffles, petty-coats, and bows, like a hopped up Little Bow Peep.) So between the title, cover, blurb and my own manga/anime fandom I went into this expecting some serious WTF kind of action. I thought that might be part of the fun. I'm even fairly familiar with some of the motifs spoofed here. Despite that I just wanted to cry for it.

The problem had nothing to do with any of the anime references. A yaoi cat-boy is pretty classic and I'd probably have been disappointed if one didn't show up. My complaint was with the not sexy sex and the lack of logic. For example, Jack has to ram painfully through her hymen but the girl owns numerous dildos/vibrators. What exactly has she been doing with these if she still has an intact hymen?

Jack was cruel, unconcerned with her pleasure and the fisting was just too blunt to be enjoyable. I'd even let it slide on its lack of possibility if it hadn't just been stated as non-erotically as a chore list. It eventually just became a sexual melee. Now, Ms. Feurouge can certainly write, but this a serious disappointment for me.

***MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS***

If you've never read this type of story before -

* She is absorbed with all things manga and anime to the point of dressing like her favorite characters and emulating them in real life;

* She is, for one shining - *coughcough* dooming - moment, irrational,

* He is equally irrational and actually rather violatingly so;

* There is a magical and sexually excitable creature,

* And rough sex - *coughcough* possibly dubious consent / forced sex, depending on your viewpoint / mindset

- this probably isn't the BEST place to cut your teeth. What I mean to say is: It's HARDCORE!!! If you're squeamish, please don't!

I'm not particularly squeamish, and I understand that there are people who enjoy this type of story, and I am new to the scene (this being my first story of this type) and therefore I don't know a whole lot about the genre. What I do know, however, is that this story isn't really my thing.

I think the guy's a douche bag, the girl's... OMG! in the most irritating, alarming way possible, and the sex is NASTY - maybe in a good way, maybe not (I thought not). My biggest objection, aside from Usagi letting the guy into the house in the first place, or even opening the door for him a second time, is the fisting. Yup, I really don't think it would have: a) worked, and b) worked in any remotely safe way. (She's a virgin?)

That said, hey, I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. If this sort of thing is likely to have you cringing and running for the hills, resist / don't risk it.

*

I have to say, I'm somewhat curious to see if the author will reinvent this story under her new pseudonym and what she'll make of it. Okay, A LOT curious! Hey, author lady, I LIKED Tsuki! *winkwink* ;)

*

I still don't know what kawaii means. Hmm... Wikipedia?
