More About the Author

Author Ed Scott is now retired and lives in northern Wisconsin with his wife. Ed was a police officer for more than thirty-six years in Minneapolis, MN. until 1998. Ed is also a military veteran. He has traveled extensively and studied many cultures around the world and has examined religion and spirituality as it relates to human consciousness. Ed Scott has attended several universities and colleges around the country and has served for fifteen years as Board President of the Institute For The Study of Human Awareness until 2000.
Ed wrote Wisdom of The Heart:Create Your Own Reality, in 2007. A second book, Life is about Choices, will be published in October of this year. Ed writes in an appealing conversational style and often uses anecdotal examples when writing about the law of attraction, synchronicity, religion, cosmic energy, and human consciousness. I have a KZ1000P and this contains all of the info I need to maintain it. A nice extra is that there is a section specific to the police model since they are a little different than the normal 1000 series.

If you have a motorcycle and want to maintain and repair it you need a manual. Trying to depend on information you glean online is not very efficient and you can get some mis-information if you aren't good at picking and choosing. If you own one of these older bikes you'll probably be doing most (or all) of the maintenance and repair yourself and it really helps to have a trustworthy source of information. Clymer manuals are written for those of us who aren't motorcycle mechanics by trade. A Kawasaki, or other manufacturer, shop manual is written for a professional and is focused more on what to do than how to do something. For example if you want to replace brake pads a shop manual would say remove the front calipers, a Clymer would say remove the front calipers and tell you how to remove them.

I like having an owners manual as well since it provides the specific tire size, tire pressure, spark plug type, engine oil, chain lube, warm up procedure, etc recommended by Kawasaki.

I'd say a Clymer manual and an owners manual are two excellent investments that will more than pay for themselves if you plan on keeping your bike for any length of time.

I'd give this manual 5 stars if it was dedicated to one model e.g. KZ1000P, carbureted, with a chain drive (since that's what I have). It has what I need but also contains info for the KZ1100, fuel injected models and shaft drive - which is fine it just means you have to skip information that's not applicable to your bike. It's not like some manuals that cover so many models that they become generic to the point where they aren't much use.

This manual serves well its basic and intended purpose of maintenance and repair. However, for my specific need, there was no discussion of how to deal with rust in the gas tank, which is not so uncommon as these late '70's and early '80's bikes continue to survive the ravages of time. Beyond its maintenance and repair purpose, any questions regarding re-jetting carburetors for a non-stock exhaust system or pod air filters would not be served. Photos were adequate, with clear and visible "arrow" inserts, and they ranged from sharp to fuzzy, and so could be updated and improved with higher resolution digital photos. This manual will stand on its own, but could be supplemented with a factory manual where some clarification may be needed. All said, this is a very good manual, and a real bargain if you could buy it at a discounted price.
