I bought this the same time I got the 840589 Kawasaki 190 piece rotary tool and it will not work with the rotary tool.

When I purchased this there was no pic but at a price of eight bucks I couldn't pass it up. I did some checking and based on what I found it looked like it would work. It fits both my Craftsman variable speed rotary tool and my Dremel. However, it's a bare bones tool so you'll need a 1/8" collet and nut, not included, before you can use it. In fact, there's really nothing with this tool except what you see in the pic so you'll also need a wrench for the tool end. The end that attaches to the tool is a ¾" thread. I also added some pics. You can also use a drill bit collet but that's a little sloppy. I've had several of these from different manufactures and always had to stick something into the end, that item is included, to stop it from rotating when inserting a tool.

I was replacing a Craftsman flexible shaft that I broke from misuse and had the collet. I used the flexible shaft with a diamond burr to sharpen my chainsaw and that was a mistake. The wheel bound and the shaft broke. The Kawasaki does have a disclaimer on it that it should not be used for router bits but if you use it like I did you'll be buying another one soon. It's a little shorter than the competition but at the price it was about half the cost and it looks pretty much identical to what I had: just a little shorter. If you want everything to be perfect like one reviewer did than you should pay lots more and buy a Dremel shaft. I went for the price and it works for me and that's why it got 5 stars.

There are some bad reviews on this product and it's to bad. This works great with the black and decker RTX. Some reviews said it has no collar, mine did. The secret to connecting it was you have to pull out the flexible shaft and push it into the collar on the RTX then screw the rest onto the RTX. Attach the rotary tool to the tip and it's off you go. I'm enjoying this very much and it's my first time using this.
Hope you will consider it, I had my doubts but so far so good.

this is pretty good for the price and works w my Black & Decker RTX-B 3-Speed RTX Rotary Tool, but you'll need your own collets for non-standard (not the typical 1/8") sized bits, cuz the Dremel 4486 MultiPro Keyless Chuck that people seem to be purchasing w this item will not fit on the flex tip (working/tool end)- i don't have the ability to use my 1/32" drill bit at the end of the flex tip wo a separate collet, for example. As a side-note, the Dremel 4486 Keyless Chuck does fit my Black and Decker RTX-B.

it's a pain to change the collets/collar on the flex tip, but my other standard 1/8" diameter bits work with the included 1/8" collet/collar. i guess they must have added this since the first reviewer and upped the price a few dollars. you change the collet/collar with the use of a bent piece of metal, also included in the flex tip (held there with tape, so needs to be stored elsewhere after you un-tape it), that when inserted at 90 degrees, keeps the collar from spinning). if you have extra collets, that fit (according to another reviewer, the Dremel collets don't fit), this may work for you.

i personally would have purchased a pricier model had i known the Keyless Chuck would not fit. i actually only use this now w the standard 1/8" bits only, cuz i didn't buy more collets.

with that said, though, it does work well.

The Kawasaki 840857 flexible shaft fits together well with the Alltrade rotary tool that I have, by following the instructions (the Alltrade tool appears to be identical with the Kawasaki brand tool). Once together, the flexible shaft does exactly what it says. I guess in some circumstances when using the business end of the flexible tool with one hand, the rotary tool will need to be held in place (e.g. with the other hand or with a clamp) to prevent it from rolling about -- but that is the nature of the product rather than a shortcoming.

so my poor dremel 7000 finally died and with it, a piece of me. I was so sad... but then santa saved the day when he brought me a brand new 8220 for Christmas! life was worth living again! the 8220 is a kick-ass tool but it's bulky & heavy and I do a lot of precision type work. when I found out that a flex shaft attachment existed, I was sooooooooooo excited. I didn't want to pay the $40 for the dremel brand though and so i combed through ALL of the descriptions & reviews of the non-dremel brand flex shafts to see if they'd fit an 8220. I never found a solid answer but I was pretty sure this one would work, even if I had to purchase a different collet or something later. fyi, this flex shaft requires NO EXTRA ATTACHMENTS/COLLETS/COLLARS to work with the 8220. I simply took the collar off, inserted the stem, tightened the existing collet/nut on the dremel AND WENT TO TOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am currently dremeling EVERYTHING *EVER*!
oh Kawasaki 840857 flexible shaft for rotary tools...you complete me!

I tried using this on a Dremel and although it fits on the tool just fine, the included collet size is bigger than a standard Dremel. This meant that the smaller inner diameter collet I use with a drill bit on my Dremel did not fit properly.

Also, I did not like the "lock" on the bit-end of the shaft. You must insert something akin to a hex key to hold the shift in place to change the bit. It's not a huge deal, but it does make the bit changing process a tad more cumbersome.

This may work ok for some, but for my usage I found the Dremel-branded accessory is worth the extra money.
