This birthday present is a favorite. The quality is cheap, China made, however, for a small drum with lots of various abilities, it is a great first drum to access if there is true interest and ability.

I purchased this item with some apprehesion due to previous reviews. Well, it turned out to be pretty nice and our 4 year-old son loves it. Yes, you can hear the drumsticks hitting the plastic (which is why I gave it four stars) but that is certainly not a reason to not buy it. It is the best one of its kind out there (we tried a few others in the stores) and is loud enough. Our son enjoys it. I wish they still made the one with the stand, which may have made it worth the price. I think this item was overpriced by about $10.

My daughter though she'd like a drum set but we didn't want to invest in a real set given the cost and the likelihood that she'd play them for a few days and then abandon them. So we picked this in hopes that she'd see if she really wanted to learn how to play drums. She didn't ever really like this and never really tried to do anything with them. They are pretty flimsy and cheap looking (of course they *are* inexpensive so I didn't have high hopes of much quality...and they aren't). I think they looked too much like a toy rather than being what she had hoped for. We have since gotten a real set of drums (on loan from a friend) and she took lessons for several months...but decided that she didn't really like the drums. So, in the end, the investment was about what I'd hoped for. If you don't mind the cheap look and them being somewhat flimsy, I think this is a pretty good value for the price.

Got these drums for my then 3 year old and a year later the drums are still going strong and both my 2 and 4 year old are immensely enjoying it. They have large variety of beats and rhythms and the volume is pretty loud. I recommend to get extra pair of drums sticks if you have multiple children.

Great drums for my grandson to learn how to play. Very durable and kid friendly.
He really loved them and has not stopped since receiving them.

I bought this for my 5-yr-old son who LOVES TO DRUM. Although it looks really cool with all the buttons and the colors, it was a BIG disappointment. You could barely hear the drum sounds, even with the volume turned up as high as it would go. And I could tell little if any difference between the "types" of drums the different pads were supposed to sound like. My son could make a greater variety of sounds with much greater volume just using the drumsticks on everyday objects around the house! My son quickly lost interest in it, and it ended up in the bottom of the toy box. :-( My son still loves to drum, but we're definitely going to have to find something much better than this to keep him from pounding the furniture!

The Kawasaki drum is nicely designed, however, the sound isn't that loud and our 3 year old has done something to cause the snare drum to stop playing. He loves it and pretends that he is a producer by changing the various beats that the drum has.

We got this for my 5 year old for Chirstmas. He loves playing with it. There are lots of background rhythms that he can choose if he wants. There is a volume control. It takes 6 AA batteries; he has been good about turning it off when he is done so will see how long the first set of batteries lasts. Overall, I think it is a good toy for the price. Will it teach him how to drum? I don't know but that wasn't the goal of the purchase.

This toy is a bit complex for the 2&1/2 year old for whom I bought it, but he LOVES it and with 6 AA batteries, it keeps him occupied for a loooong time!
He likes to entertain adults with his musical abilities.

My 4 year old loves it. he knows the names for all the different drums (snare, high hat, etc) and is learning the different sounds they make. he also uses the rhythms and it is enhancing his creativity. He has played with it consistently since he got it a week ago- so it's fun, but i can't account for durability yet.
