5.0 out of 5 stars I would never have a DVD Player in my car! (yeah right lady!)
While looking at new SUVs last year, I found the major NEW gadget was a DVD player installed either overhead or in the back of the front headrests. I had no interest in this, because after all, my children can amuse themselves in the car!!! And we have so much to talk about on long car trips, right? WRONG!!!
I purchased this at Target for $ 279 and it has been well...

1.0 out of 5 stars WORST PORTABLE DVD PLAYER --our 2nd unit went out too!
Don't buy this one. We're on our second set, thinking that the first one's short life was probably an anomaly. Both sets are only used on long car rides 4-5 times a year, maximum. Our kids never touched it, neither set was dropped, it was not left in the hot or cold car over night: Optimal circumstances for any electronics. Still, our first player died at the year...

While looking at new SUVs last year, I found the major NEW gadget was a DVD player installed either overhead or in the back of the front headrests. I had no interest in this, because after all, my children can amuse themselves in the car!!! And we have so much to talk about on long car trips, right? WRONG!!!
I purchased this at Target for $ 279 and it has been well worth twice the price. It has two good size screens with their own volume control each. It takes about 1 minute to install thanks to ONLY 3 wires and velcro and is so easy to operate, even a mom can pop in a dvd for the back passengers while sitting in traffic(although you should familiarize yourself with it before getting on the road).
I would also like to add, the wires from the dvd player to the monitors are long enough that with a certain amount of creativity, you could very easily use one monitor in the second row and one in the third row if you have that type of SUV or van.
The best part of it is, after speaking to people who have the dvd player factory installed in their vehicles, this one is removable for every day driving around town, so nobody is screaming for Dora or Spongebob on a 3 minute drive to the supermarket!!
Definately a must have with kids on LOOOOOOONG TRIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kawasaki Portable DVD made for an excellent roadtrip!, July 22, 2005

We bought the Kawasaki Dual Monitor DVD player from Target this summer - just in time for a VERY long road trip from Iowa to North Carolina with two young children. The player works great! The kids each had their "own" monitor (mounted with velcro straps to the headrest in front of them) to watch Disney movies AND Looney Tunes to their hearts' content! My only criticism pertains to the hardware and the packaging. The myriad of wires seemed to be getting constantly tangled and the bag for the player was almost too compact for getting all of the parts (2 LCD monitors and the DVD player itself) and wires back in. Upgrading to a larger, hard case with separate wire compartments would make the player more user-friendly.

5.0 out of 5 stars We like it., December 2, 2005

We like this portable DVD player.

We use this portable DVD player for extra long car rides. I think there are too many wires to leave it permanently in the car. It's great for my 2 kids.

It's very easy to install and use. Even my kids can operate it.

Headphones are not included. If you use headphones, you do not need a splitter because there are 2 headphone jacks.

I like the carrying/storage case. Everything fits back in, even our foldable headphones.

My only complaint is that you cannot purchase a battery pack for it. I'd like to have it for when I have to turn off the car. When power is cut, even momentarily, the player re-starts. For example, when I stop to get gas, I can turn the car most of the way off and the kids can still watch the movie. Unfortunately, when I re-start the car, the DVD player turns off momentarily and then the DVD is at the beginning again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Value - Kids LOVE IT!, September 16, 2005

My wife and I are the proud parents of two and a half year old TRIPLETS! When we bought our minivan we didn't know if we should get the video system installed or wait. We decided to wait and see what was available when the kids got old enough to appreciate the video in the car.

Setup of the unit was incredibly easy, the saftey straps on the monitors were a definite plus. My kids love to pull on everything they can get their hands on and knowing that the monitors would not fall down if they pulled on them was very re-assuring. Its amazing how everything fits in that tiny little bag they give you. Its not the easiest thing to get it all in there - but it does fit! You just have to be a little patient and take your time winding up the cords and such.

As far as the performance of the unit - it could be a little better - the video does skip or "stutter" sometimes when you hit a bump, but otherwise the playback is excellent and the picture quality is surprisingly good for such a small screen. My kids absolutely love it - they all scream "ELMO ON" whenever they get in the van. We only use the system for long trips but they always want it on whenever we go for a ride. The beauty of this system is that it is easily removed from the van and we don't have to worry that they will scream to have it on whenever they get in the van.

Overall we are very happy with out purchase and would recommend this product to anyone with more than one small child. The fact that you can connect video games to the unit should be interesting when they get old enough to want to play them. My wife and I think this has been a lifesaver for our long car rides and give our "seal of approval" for a product that is well made and well thought out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice!, January 31, 2006
This review is from: Kawasaki Mobile DVD System with Dual 6.5" LCD Monitors - PVS1965 (Electronics)
Very pleased with this system. The build quality is very good; the design is excellent. Monitors install very quickly to headrests with velcro straps and safety elastic. Other reviewers complained about number of cables, but you can't really do it with less unless you go wireless! (There's only one power cable to the player and one cable to each monitor--connections are firm and cable plug orientation is indicated with a large white arrow). Sound is fine and images are fine. My 7-year-old started using it right away with absolutely no instruction. All fits into a single bag (a little tight, but decent quality). Nice job Kawasaki!

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BOTHER! BUY A BETTER BRAND!, February 22, 2007

This review is from: Kawasaki Mobile DVD System with Dual 6.5" LCD Monitors - PVS1965 (Electronics)
I purchased this dvd player for my kids for Christmas. It is February and we haven't used this very often. Myabe 7 times. Yesterdat the sound quit working for no reason. I did the trouble shooting and then called the manufactor. Nothing helped. The manufactor told me to ship it to them but I would have to pay the shipping and handling even though its under warranty! BUY A BETTER BRAND ITS NOT WORTH IT!

I purchased this online from Walmart for $99.99 on Clearance. Wal-Mart is standing by it and allowing me to exchange for a better one!

1.0 out of 5 stars Looks great, but not worth it, December 29, 2005

This review is from: Kawasaki Mobile DVD System with Dual 6.5" LCD Monitors - PVS1965 (Electronics)
My wife and I just received the Kawasaki system for Christmas. We fired it up today for a long drive home only to discover that the system can't withstand the vibration from our Yukon (factory stock car, no modifications to the suspension, i.e. not a monster truck). The player was consistantly skipping. Our 2 1/2 year old actually took off her headphones so she could just watch the movie. This one is going back to the store.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kawasaki DVD system, October 28, 2006
This review is from: Kawasaki Mobile DVD System with Dual 6.5" LCD Monitors - PVS1965 (Electronics)
We purchased this system last christmas for our family. When you're on a smooth road it works nicely. The picture and sound quality are pretty good. It does skip a lot when you hit even small bumps. Sometimes after we hit a bump the DVD will just spin for a couple minutes and freeze up. The picture on one of the screens occassionally goes blank and has blue lines across it. I called Target Customer Service in August and they said that it had to be handled by the manufacturer. The manufacturer is impossible to get in touch with by phone and online. I've been on hold three times for at least fifteen minutes then disconnected. I called Target back who also tried to contact the manufacturer with no luck. I was told "sorry we can't do anything for you." It's a nice product when working correctly, but I don't feel this product was worth the $235. that we spent (and that was on sale from $279.)

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money!, June 18, 2007
This review is from: Kawasaki Mobile DVD System with Dual 6.5" LCD Monitors - PVS1965 (Electronics)
We bought this product for a long road trip. Great idea. Good enough picture. But even before we hit the return portion of our trip, the dvd stopped playing. I found a Target store, and they were very considerate and exchanged it for a new one. All was fine for the rest of the trip. It sat in a closet for a while until the next big road trip..which was JUST out of the warranty period. It didn't even start playing at all this time. Absolutely NO help available. I called the service number on the Kawasaki product, and no help available because the number on my product didn't match any number they had. Target employee couldn't find the number they were looking for either. I'm stalemated, with a piece of junk and no one interested in making good on it. Target doesn't carry this product in their stores any more. Neither player had more than four or five hours use, and very tender care. Buyer beware.
