Kaya was the Wailers' final studio LP before 1979's
Survival, arguably the album on which Bob Marley and his band reached pure pop-rock bliss (with a reggae base, natch!) via melodic tunes like "Africa Unite" and "Ride, Natty, Ride." Released in 1978,
Kaya saw Marley moving more in that direction, musically, with pop melodies developing and even lead guitar piling on top of the syncopated reggae backbeats.
Kaya concentrates mostly on "lighter" subjects--namely matters of the heart or just feeling good (read: screw art, let's dance)--as titles like the joyful "Easy Skanking," the beautiful "Is This Love," "Satisfy My Soul," and "Misty Morning" surely illustrate.
