Marley does it again,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kaya (Audio CD)
Kaya was Bob Marley & the Wailers best melodic album they did. For those that wanted to hear the sweeter and soulful side of reggae Kaya is the one. Although the lyrics werent as deep or political as Bob's other albums Kaya brings an approach that allot of 70's music brought but with a reggae twist. This is definately an album worth having in your reggae collection.

First Timers should buy this album,

The is the first album I bought of Marley's, and it's by far one of the best(next to Exodus). Discover the delights of Jah Rasta Fari and the delight of Bob Marley's musical soul. From songs such as Kaya to Easy Skanking the CD is a classic. I would also recommend Pato Banton Captured by Mad professor. if you like this you'll like Pato Banton.

Best Bob Marley Album Made,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kaya (Audio CD)
Although not replete with hits like the preceding album, Exodus, Kaya is the Wailer's best album, better even than Catch a Fire. It is not full of strong political messages or deep Rastafarian chants, but rather it returns to capture the beauty of free-spirited, light hearted reggae tunes. Someone looking for deep, angry lyrics might not be satisfied, but if it's great sound you're looking for, this is the album. Somehow it always gets mediocre reviews, perhaps because it does not fulfill what people who listen to reggae expect of a political group like the Wailers. However, Marley has definitely not sold out, and songs such as Easy Skanking, Sun is Shining, She's Gone, Misty Morning, Time Will Tell, and Running Away are all some of his most delightful lost classics, and deserve far more credit than they get. The title song may very well be one of his best songs ever. This album is a must for everyone who enjoys reggae, or beautiful music period.

Ragge Bliss - Marley's best!,
By
This review is from: Kaya (Audio CD)
Marley's "Kaya" is pure Jamaican funk. Of all his perviously released albums, "Kaya" blended understatement, smooth grooves, and an addictive Bass/Drum beats. This album migrated Raggae in the mainstream in the late Seveties. Gems such as "Kaya", "Is this Love", "Satisfy My Soul", and "She's Gone" make it Marley's most balanced CD. Skip all the cheezy Marley compilations and buy the real thing - Kaya!

This is probably Bob Marley's best studio album. It is not as politicaly charged as the others, but is the quintesential album for relaxtion and just plain feeling good. There is no other greater artist than Bob Marley and this album is definete proof.

Bob Marley's Best!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kaya (Audio CD)
This was the first Bob Marley album I ever owned, bought it back in 78'. It is a hidden treasure, since most people go for "Legend or "Exodus" cd's first. Easy Skankin' and Time Will Tell are some of Marley's best. A mellow album that really puts you in a great frame of mind and a happy mood! Buy this CD!

Not better or worse than other albums, just different,
This review is from: Kaya (Audio CD)
This album suffered mixed reviews largely because it followed a great album 'Exodus' and was seen as a weaker effort in comparison. Interesting though, because most of the songs for 'Kaya' came out of the same recording sessions that produced 'Exodus'. I don't think it's weaker but it certainly is different. A whole album devoted to the exploration of love, joys of cooling out, and the beauty of nature. Sounds nice and it is. Light, upbeat reggae melodies 'Is this Love' 'Sun is shining' 'Satisfy my soul' 'Misty Morning' being the better of them. One or two 'message' tunes with more heavier rhythms such as 'Crisis' 'Running away' and 'Time will tell'. The last two supposedly relating to the attempt on his life (circa Exodus album). 'Running away' was Bob questioning his motives for splitting Jamaica after the shooting in December 1976, going into - you got it - Exodus! - for 18 months in England. 'Time will tell' is a rebuke of those in the system that created the violent environment "Think you're in Heaven/But you're living in Hell". The album is simply a different mood for the Wailers. I happen to prefer the heavier, roots reggae rhythms so I'm just being moody by not giving it 4 stars.

My personal favorite of Marley's albums....,

Marley took some criticism for his mellow approach on this album (which he was soon to answer with the militant "Survival"), but "Kaya" has always been my favorite of Island's Marley albums. This album proves Marley's versatility and talent were very real.Hints of militancy are still in the air, but Marley's mellow side is intriguing and makes for terrific listening. One of the all-time great reggae albums and certainly a must for any reggae collection.

Bob Marley is truly one of the greatest. My husband and I shared "Kaya" while traveling down the coast in California in a bright red convertible..."Sun Is Shining" is my favorite. Years later, my son wrote an assignment for school and made reference to "Sun Is Shining" as being a song that "describes how I feel about man's place on this Earth as being a part of it rather than a destroyer of it. The world is beautiful and it's great to be free." I think my husband and Bob Marley would be proud. Shy

If you're into reggae you have to have plenty of Bob Marley.
Like all of his albums, this is another nice selection for your collection. He is most definitely the King of Reggae. |
