Book Description

July 2001
The book is basicly an invitation to join the kayakfishing revolution and become a member of the kayakfishing community who fish anywhere from small ponds to open oceans from their kayaks. Citing the strategic, economical and convenience advantages of fishing by kayak-the most overlooked, effective, efficient, and convenient way to: fish with less hassle, fish more often, catch more fish, have more fun and save money doing it-the book makes a strong case for selling your big boat. Target readers are fishermen who have never fished by kayak before, kayakers who have never fished from their kayak before, and individuals who have never kayaked or fished but think that they might like to give it a try. The book also has plenty of tips and techniques of interest to experienced kayakfishermen as well because it draws on a wealth of information from top kayakfishing experts and pros from all over the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. It also profiles the learning experiences of new incoming kayakfishermen with various angling interests and degrees of experience who are just as enthusiastic about helping newcomers as they are about practicing their sport. Included is advice on how to: choose the right kayak for you, choose the right accessories, and customize a kayak, including the installation of live bait tanks, rodholders, depthfinders and more. The book also teaches kayakfishing skills and techniques such as kayak flyfishing, lure fishing, live bait fishing, including kayak fish stalking, fish fighting, fish handling, including kayakfishing safety. The book also has a special resource chapter that directs the reader to "kayakfishing friendly" paddle and tackle shops in their area. It also lists sellers of specialized kayakfishing accessories, kayak manufacturers, kayakfishing schools, instructors, guides, outfitters and Internet websites where where readers can get free advice and information. Also included are email addresses of experienced kayak anglers who are anxious to help and guide newcomers, and the kayakfishing bulletin board addresses where they hang out and converse on the Internet.

Review

"a must read for anyone wanting to enter the sport." -- BASSMASTER Magazine, April 2001

About the Author

Ken Daubert began sneaking away from the house to the Minneyhole and The Pond, nearly worrying his poor Mother to death, at the tender age of four. From there, he kept going on a rusty old bicycle twenty six miles roundtrip through the south Jersey countryside, pumping the pedals up many a steep hill and past numerous long since dead, but remembered, grouchy dogs along the way to his favorite farm pond. He kept going. He fished freshwater and saltwater from oceans to mountain streams with flyrods and conventional tackle throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Along the way, he served in the Army and the Navy, and earned a degree in Biology and Environmental Sciences. He became a published author in major outdoor fishing magazines. He became a nationally recognized taxidermist with a client list that reads like a Who’s Who List in the outdoor and sports world. Headquartering on Half Moon Lake in the Ocala National Forest in central Florida, he became a U.S. Coast Guard liscensed captain and fishing guide for 19 years. He was featured in almost every major outdoor fishing magazine as a top taxidermist and fishing guide for trophy largemouth bass, saltwater flats and flyfishing. He has been a lifetime designer of fishing lures and flies, and many of his fishing lure and fly designs have been featured in the outdoor magazines. He built a 14,000 gallon outdoor aquarium in his backyard to do aquatic photography and to study fish behavior. Along with several partners, he designed, promoted and marketed the famous Banjo Minnow fishing lure which became the hottest selling fishing lure in the country. He served as vice president of Banjo Buddies Inc. and was one of the producers of the infomercial that was nominated for four international awards and actually won two of the four categories. He appeared in the original infomercial and made appearances on QVC. Ken also did much of the underwater photography for Bill Dance’s infomercial Soundbite and has been a member of several other corporations as a consultant to manufacture and promote fishing lures and products. He’s still going, but mostly by kayak.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kayakfishing isn't easy..., March 7, 2002
By

This review is from: Kayakfishing : The Revolution (Paperback)
...What I found though, is that fishing from a kayak is no easy task, especially when you have a spot that you need to fish over, and there is considerable current and wind. Juggling a pole and a paddle is tricky. But now that I have read this book I find myself saying "So that's what I needed to do!" over and over again. Everything makes sense now! My next trip will be much more effective armed with the knowledge and techniques that I have learned from reading this book. But Ken covers much more than techniques; there is information that I never would have considered before deciding which kayak is best suited to meet my needs, and I would've made a big mistake by purchasing the wrong kayak. He gets into customization and accessories also. Ken's knowledge is worth every penny that this book sells for, and much more. If you are just getting into kayakfishing or have been doing it for a while, you'll gain from reading this book!

I bought this book just a few days before I went on my first kayakishing adventure into the Gulf of Mexico. I didn't get a chance to read the book before I went on this 20 mile excursion to a place that I've been to a hundred times before in a not-always-so-trusty old outboard-powered skiff. The trip was a blast! I am officially converted - I now have my cuddy cabin for sale!

2.0 out of 5 stars A thinly veiled advertisement, June 23, 2008

Don't bother with this one...

The writing is poorly organized and extremely repetitive. Remember when you were in high school and were trying to stretch an essay out to a certain number of pages by repeating things?...reminds me of that. Plus much of the text is a thinly veiled advertisement for various guide services and stores. You can do way better by simply Googling for good web pages on the subject.
