I own this product and finches love it however it is too porous. Much of the precious nyjer is wasted on the ground beneath. For a fraction of the price I bought a THISTLE SAK FEEDER by Gardner/Homestead and remedied the situation. The mesh is finer yet sturdy. I am now visited by dozens of finches without mounds of wasted uneaten seeds. Give it a try, you'll more than make up the cost in no time!

We bought these socks after trying to wash and mend those that came with the original feeders. We have two double feeders so I bought 4 boxes, hoping we could thus last the season. Not only are these replacement socks easy to put on the tubes but they last a long time. Our yard is VERY popular with our feathered friends.

I'm a true cheapskate. I have been buying and using just the Kaytee 4-count replacement finch socks for years, without the addition of the plastic domed station top. The pack costs around $5 at our local grocery, four socks last a long time and each sock is flexible enough to make holes at the top, attach an S-hook and hang off a branch.

I finally purchased the actual station top when it was marked down by 50%. If I had bought it at full price I would have been mighty disappointed. The closure top is cheap plastic, and the pieces do not fit together well. It looks like only a matter of time before the little notches that match up (to keep the top shut) will break. It is also hard to open/close the top on a cold winter day. The addition of rain and snow makes it even worse.

I give Kaytee thistle socks (the replacement pack) five stars, but only three for the main component. The birds flock anywhere the socks are. The only advantage the dome may provide is keeping the thistle seed a bit drier, but only under pristine weather conditions. A little wind added to a rainy/snowy day and the domed socks will be wet too.

On that note, I buy this replacement pack simply because it is the cheapest outlet I can find in thistle socks--a little over $1 per sock. Thistle socks really should be cheaper than that, especially when you consider how inexpensive they probably are to make and knowing they only last so long. I often think this is an untapped market, especially as an easily mailed Ebay item. If anyone knows where to buy thistle socks cheaper than this, please let us in on your secret.

It is amazing that Wal-Mart and other retailers carry the feeder, but none of them have the replacement socks. They do wear out with the birds pecking and the elements beating them up. I guess they just want you to buy new feeders all the time. Though the socks are too expensive for what you get, it is still cheaper than replacing the feeder.

We've had this feeder for about a year and a half and are just now buying the replacement box. The product will develop holes over time, as expected, when woodpeckers and other larger birds start pecking. However, they are relatively small holes; one would expect the material to last 6-12 months before replacing.

The feeder holds a large amount of food, thanks to the holding area at the top. I like the neutral color, and the size allows for lots of finches to flock on the feeder. We've had as many and more birds as pictured on the front of the box. I think it's a great buy, a great design, and we enjoy it a lot!

Very pleased with the price of these replacement seed socks for my finch feeder; however, the material from which they are constructed needs to be "tougher." With only one filling of my feeder, the finches tear holes in the socks that are large enough for the tiny thistle seeds to just pour out on the ground. Thistle seed is waaay to spendy to just dump on the ground. I spend an inordinate amount of time stitching up the holes in the socks. It would be really good if these socks lasted longer than one filling before tearing. I enjoy the conveience and capacity of my two-sock feeder, but may have to go back to a plastic or metal feeder due to having to continually replace the socks.

This used to be a good product but this pack was just about worthless. These socks lasted only one day. ONE. FREAKING. DAY! The cloth is so weak the finches destroyed them, dumping pounds of seed to the ground. The ones I've bought in the past lasted several months so something has changed in the making of these socks. I have gone back to the plastic feeders and will stay away from these until the quality comes back or Kaytee goes out of business from peddling junk.
