Keeker and Plum are fun for kids and adults alike!,

As a rider since childhood and the mom of two horse crazy girls, I can highly recommend the Keeker and Plum stories. There is enough horsey adventures to thrill the children, enough humor to make both adults and kids laugh. My 13 year old daughter loves to listen in while I read Keeker stories to her much younger sister (aged 7, who can read these easily on her own but we have so much fun giggling over the stories together, she doesn't want to!).
This story is about horse sleep away camp and how being a younger rider doesn't mean you can't be an excellent horseman/horsewoman. The story has classic sleepaway camp info (staying up too late, eating too much candy, having fun with your buddies) which just makes it more fun. Enjoy!

We were looking for some beginning chapter-books that were reasonably intelligent, nonviolent, not filled with weird messages, unpleasant behavior, violence or issue-oriented anxieties... The "Keeker" series was perfect, about a bright-eyed, sometimes silly little girl nicknamed Keeker who lives on a farm with her parents and various animals, including a mischievous Shetland pony named Plum.
In the fifth book in the series, Keeker and Plum get back to horse business, spending the summer at pony camp with some other little girls, including her old nemesis, Tifani, who has grown up a little and is much nicer now. Along with the second book, "Horse Show Show-Off," this is one of the better books in the series. (ReadThatAgain!)
