5.0 out of 5 stars Their crowning achievement, August 10, 2007
This review is from: Keel (Audio CD)
This is the one that should've made them a house hold name! No need to review all of the songs, but standout tracks are "somebody's Waiting",If love is a crime, and I said the wrong thing (to the right girl). If you can find this, buy it!

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm surprised they didn't make it with this one (3.5 stars), July 17, 2011

Although this isn't a great album, I'm surprised that Keel didn't make it with this one. The stars were all lined up. This self-titled album, their fourth, had the glossy production and pop-metal sound that was all the craze in 1987. Furthermore, they even opened some shows on Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet tour at the time when the latter were at their white hot peak in popularity. Or maybe they just didn't have the right image, who knows? My opinion is that the record company chose the wrong song for the first single. "Somebody's Waiting" was the first single/video and it wasn't even one of the better songs. In fact, MTV rarely played the video. There are at least three other songs on the album that would have been big hits if given the chance. Those songs are the sugar coated yet catchy "Cherry Lane", the strong power ballad "Calm Before the Storm", and the excellent melodic "Don't Say You Love Me". "I Said the Wrong Thing to the Right Girl" and "It's A Jungle Out There" were pretty good too. Like on their previous album, The Final Frontier, the harder rocking songs are the weaker cuts. "King of the Rock", "United Nations", and "4th of July" have decent riffs but the lyrics are pretty boneheaded, even by pop/metal standards. All told, if you're feeling nostalgic for some good pop/metal, give this a shot.
