This is exactly what I was looking for. I recently suffered through a car accident and as a result have numerous issues to deal with now. This handy guide gives me not only the basics but many (many!) I hadn't seen before, and am now trying.

Very useful! Thanks!

I think most people think stretching is an extra, "if you have time, do it but if not don't sweat it" part of fitness and health. This book will convince you otherwise!!! I want to go stretch now!! The author does a good job of explaining why stretching is important. It's easy to follow, too - clear, pretty photos and instructions. Even if you just did 5-10 of these stretches you would feel sooo good!

Especially recommend it if you're stressed. I've read her other book "Keep Calm & Breathe" and the combo of these two helps stress a LOT : )

i've had many problems since having my second child. after childbirth, my right hip was lower than my left also tilted in and down (yeah sounds impossible but it's not) that plus muscles in constant spasm caused me to be in alot of pain. i saw a physical therapist and he said if i didn't take care of this problem it would start twisting my spine. um scary! i haven't really been able to exercise b/c that seemed to only aggravate things. well i found this book and thank God i did. it has been an answer to prayer. i thought i knew how to stretch properly but i guess not. i told my husband that i haven't felt this good since before i had my daughter.

This is one of my most favorite stretching books. I particularly love the hip stretches. My hips gets really tight from backpacking and hiking. This is the only book I have found that addresses this area. This book explains the benefits of each stretch with clear pictures and explanations. I have other stretching books but this one includes new variations that have been very beneficial. This is a great book to add to my stretching library.

I'm a great believer in stretches. I don't find it increases my energy (I wish!) but it IS vital for pain relief, balance, relaxation, and maintaining (or increasing) range of motion and mobility. Stretching (possibly because it's seen as boring) is an overlooked form of exercise. I was also impressed with the author's claim that stretching WITH RESISTANCE increases the effectiveness of the stretch. This makes sense and I will incorporate this into my daily routine.

I tried all of these and was able to do most of them. The "fold" is a concept that was introduced to me by my-sister-the-yoga-freak and it has been of great benefit. The author shows several variations. The explanations are simple and easy-to-follow. The pictures would be much more effective if shot in a studio with a plain background and the models wearing contrasting clothing. I found some of the pictures quite confusing.

The only other caveat I have to offer is that some of these stretches are rather extreme. I got a bit carried away with the "Gorilla Stretch" and fell on my face! (Would have made a great video review!) If you're older, overweight, out of shape, or have physical disabilities, modify the stretch and do what you can do without injuring yourself. Yes, "Treading the Needle" is a good stretch for sciatica sufferers, but even lying on your back with your knees bent is helpful. Take it slowly. You don't have to do it just like those slim, young models in order to get real benefits.

I agree with the author about the importance of breath control during stretching. As she says, yoga instruction is helpful in that regard. Tai chi is a wonderful form of exercise that promotes balance, flexibility, and breath control. Scott Cole's DVDs are inexpensive and easy-to-follow.

Not a great book if you want the details. Pictures a poor and not informative. Don't recommend this if you're just starting out.

Many of the stretches I remember doing in school. Now that I am older stretching is beneficial for stiffness and the aches and pains from work. I have tried some of the stretches and have felt great afterward. I cannot stretch as far or as deeply as the photos but I stretch to my ability. I plan on eventually trying all of the stretches.
