Deep Music,

Thanks to Paste Magazine's free compilation CDs, I heard the single "Buildings and Mountains," in which I heard the sound of the future. So I ordered the EP, which only confirmed my belief that something special is at hand in this band. The full-length is a true gift to those wise enough to listen, with numerous standout songs even better than the single. I don't want to draw comparisons to other bands, because this is incomparable. I can't wait for their tour, because I have faith that this kind of magical music is best enjoyed live. For now, buy this album and soothe yourself on the fine melodies, songwriting and total lack of pretension. A beautiful debut.

If you are into hauntingly beautiful vocal melodies and textures that are completely uncommon from most modern bands you will be pleasantly surprised by this disk. Their music has already been featured on Greys Anatomy and they will be taking the world by storm very soon. Catch them on tour with Nada Surf and rumor has it that possible touring might include death cab for cutie. These gentlemen of Kansas City have created one of the most emotionally powerful releases in years.

Can anything good come out of Kansas City, MO? I lay in a half-sleep in the backseat of my niece's car two years ago as we glided through the Arizona desert, my niece continually feeding the Mp3 player with sounds I'd never heard before. This album was playing through the second time when I asked her who it was. Later I bought the CD from Amazon. The production is fantastic, the songs original and engaging. Keep Color is sonic enjoyment in it's purest and most elevating form. Something great came out of Kansas City, MO.

I heard the song Buildings & Mountains on RadioParadise (everyone reading this review must check out radioparadise.com, brilliantly eclectic internet radio) and knew 30 seconds in that I was hearing something well worth looking into. I played the samples on Amazon and without hesitation bought the entire CD, plus the EP songs. The band offers a panoply of rich musical tapestries, with gorgeous harmonies and wonderfully unpredictable progressions; all infinitely interesting. 'Indie' is an unhelpfully amorphous categorization, but this would fall into that arena. I hate to compare artists (it's often misleading) but fair to say, if you like the Shins, you'll like this - and they aren't even much alike. Perhaps (perhaps and sometimes) comparable to Death Cab's excellent Codes and Keys (review re-edited 10/2011), or Porcupine Tree without the bombast. (Please: no comparisons to Cold Play - and I like some CP.) The music is not exactly hook-laden but is totally compelling nevertheless, heavily laced with minor keys without being down, and beautifully produced. About half the songs (including those on the EP) approach or exceed 4 minutes but none go on too long. They are said to be touring with Nada Surf, and I like NS but these guys are definitely more interesting. I say this about very few artists, but I would buy, sound-unheard, anything these guys put out, they are that consistently excellent. My burned disc (all from Amazon) ends with the gorgeous, Beach Boy-inflected 'Sinkin' Annie Down Down Down Down (only the title goes on too long) from the EP. Buy it all, and tell all your friends. They will all thank you. BTW, I'm 53 but my 20-yr-old daughter loves it as much as I do.

More than Music....the sound of the future,

My first exposure to The Republic Tigers was on the Letterman show (a friend texted me to check them out). They were playing their hit, "Buildings and Mountians." I was immediately hooked to this new multi-layered sound, with lyrics to match. Music is part of my daily life, and I'm a typical music shuffler, but for the last week I've only had 1 group on repeat, The Republic Tigers. I have highly recommended this group to my friends, and have only heard great feedback. Keep up the good work boys, and keep those songs coming Kenny.

good stuff,

This is a great new purchase for me. I've been looking for something new but now so new. I think I hear a little bit of New Order and maybe Psychedelic Firs in there. I just listened to this one twice and plan on listening many more times. I like it. It's good stuff! I don't think anyone would regret buying it.

Eminently listenable, this cd has been on high rotation in my music collection since I purchased it. It is quite a mellow, but very magnetic release and it's catchy without being typical or a cliche. Its one of cd's I can play no matter my mood. The first track 'Buildings and Mountains' has been featured on Grey's Anatomy and Letterman, and is a brilliant introduction into the mood and style of The Republic Tigers.
Totally enjoyable, this is an enthralling cd from a band that deserves a lot more attention in the future.

Vote Democrat, but listen to The Republic Tigers,

I'm not really in a position to rate this album, I'm listening to the samples. But watching LETTERMAN the other nite I was thunderstruck, spellbound & flabbergasted as these guys were just starting "BUILDINGS & MOUNTAINS". If that ain't the Song of the Year? I thot for sure these cats were from Great Britain, as the song with it's drum and tambrerine and guitar march seemed right out of HOUSEMARTINS (or BEATIFUL SOUTH).
A little SHINS in there too, maybe. At least B&M hit me the way "NEW SLANG" knocked me off my feet, first listen. I won't say The REPUBLICAN TIGERS will change your life...but they will certainly improve your listening pleasure. Very original sound. They are indeed from the mid-western USA. Very good, and the samples, while not all as stromg as single I heard "Bulidings & Mountians" they are are strong. Bright future?

Over thirteen-the computer asks me as I am about to have a few nice things to say about this group.
Yeh-50 years over 13 which is to say you do not have to be young to like this CD. I'm usually wary of over produced CD's but this group is a very talented group who have produced some eminently listenable music. A review of music-I don't really know how anyone can really write one. You either like something or you don't-and so called "music critics" are usually wrong. So my "review" is to say-listen-you might like it. A bunch of us already do.

Someone told me they were similar to Civil Twilight, pleasently surprised!
Melodic with a pleasant symphonic quality to it...well balanced and the vocals are great. |
