This collection started out as one of the better collections I've ever read. The one-two punch of Hugh B. Cave and Brian Lumley starting off this anthology were great stories, very chilling and very memorable. Then it starts to get a little uneven, as usually is the case with any anthology. But there are some real high points here. Feeders and Eaters by Neil Gaiman, is Gaiman doing horror at his best. The Unfortunate, a novella by Tim Lebbon is one of my all-time favorites that I've read by him. And Basil Cooper, with another novella, told a psychological horror story about three haunted statues called The Gossips, which was just an amazing and very picturesque story

Unfortunately the last story by Ramsey Campbell is just all over and reads like a mess. It ends up being a decent story, but it took a lot of work to struggle through the first part of this novella. Regardless of the last story and the usual unevenness of an anthology, this still was a still a great anthology. I was thinking about half-way through it was going to be one of my favorite all-time anthologies, but that didn't happen. Still, I still loved it and it was one the better anthologies I've read in a while. There are some great stories within these pages.
