Editorial Reviews

2012 debut album from the melodically brutal Metal sextet from Bresica, Italy. Upon This Dawning has been honing their brand of metal, touring incessantly in Italy. The band has shared stages with some of the biggest names in the scene including Asking Alexandria, Underoath, Dance Gavin Dance, blessthefall, Piece the Veil, Motionless in White and In Fear and Faith, and is endorsed by Truth Custom Drums.

Upon This Dawning has not disappointed with their second album, and major label debut, To Keep Us Safe. It is hard hitting both musically and emotionally as the band blasts their way through everything from personal struggle to lost love and devotion to family/friends. Overall their message is relatively positive while retaining that hard-core edge that fans of the genre have come to expect. The singles released before the album are good representations of what the band has to offer, but don't cover the full gamut of their capabilities as demonstrated in other songs. The bands style and song writing have matured since their first full length, "On your glory we build our empire" (2009) where they had a slightly different line up and more of a "bro/homeboy" feel to some of their songs, with titles like "This Is the Intro Dudes!" and "Beer Ever Beer, 'Till the End of My Life, from the Heart to the Sky (Cheers!)". Their new album offers up a much more mature set of songs and really seems like it will be as the first track on the album is entitled, "A New Beginning" for the band.

If you like the Devil Wears Prada, you will like (tolerate?) this band. Simple.

If lyrics are important to you, then you made be a little disappointed due to repetition.

They have a lot of potential with a solid mix of clean and screamed vocals. They could use a little more diversity in the screamer's range, but over all not bad. If 8:18 from TDWP was as disappointing to you as it was to me, these guys can fill the void for "new" sound-alike music.

Don't take the 3 star rating to be a bad thing. Per Amazon, 3 stars is "Ok." It got a few spins in the player but I've moved on. Nothing grabbed me enough to say I like it, and certainly nothing so stand out as to say I loved it.

There was enough there for me to look for another release from them, but not enough for me to randomly purchase it without a listen.

The music is not overly technical, but its mix of melodic hooks and crushing energy create a highly addictive version that the apostles of modern metalcore will find particularly juicy. The song contains all of the elements one would expect with a modern metalcore release: clean choruses, keyboard work, screamed verses, and (of course) a brutal breakdown. Thankfully the breakdowns are a bit sparser than the typical fare, so they do not weigh the album down at all. I cannot say the breakdowns are earth-shattering or original, but the rest of the product is quite well done to compensate.Fans of modern metalcore will be happy with this Italian export, as the band's fun take on the genre is quite enjoyable.

Well to keep this short. If you don't like metalcore don't waste your money. Having said that for those who aren't closed minded, go buy this CD immediately. It is awesome. Definitely a great purchase. Worth every penny. That is all. Buy this CD. Can't wait to see what's in store for this band in the future!

These guys have a pretty unique sound in what is becoming a watered-down genre. They're decently heavy at times with voice mods placed at the right time, rather than just littering them throughout every song like some bands like to do. Also, no slow/boring song in the middle of the album that ruins the flow.

Loved every second of this album! I listen to similar metal like the The Devil Wears Prada, BMTH, and Bless the Fall, and I find Upon This Dawning adds a unique sound to the music by adding some electronic effects(like reverb). If you like metalcore, this should be in your collection.
