Essential Early Record,
By Mark from Minnesota (Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Keep on Singing (Audio CD)
This record sounds a little dated, mainly because nearly everything Andrae Crouch has done throughout his career sounds as fresh today as when it was first released. The arrangements on this one sound a little old school, kind of similar to a 5th Dimensionish type vibe with a more traditional orchestration and vocal approach.
But of course the record is totally fresh and innovative in all possible ways. In fact, since so many others have honored Andrae by following his type of later sound, this record sounds more unique because it does not have the fine polish and slickness he pioneered shortly after this release. My favorite tracks on this record change from time to time, my current favorite is probably "Along Came Jesus." This bouncy number sounds like it features a xylophone or something that kind of reminds me of the "Price is Right" theme. And that's a big compliment coming from me, I've always loved that theme! Anyway, all the other tracks are great and there is a surprising variety of sounds and approaches on the individual tunes. They all succeed in their distinct way, and a special hats off to the Disciples on this one!

I used to listen to this on lp & cassette when I was 5 & earlier, keeping entertained, not even knowing the music was 10 years old already! To see these old school albums recently released on cd, with the graphics intact, man! It was seriously like finding a treasure! My dad used to open up his radio show with "Keep On Singin'"...so many memories. It trips me out to see where music has come & gone to when looking at the life of Andrae Crouch alone.
