5.0 out of 5 stars mezmerizing
strangely haunting music and chorus overlaid with restrained vocals -- in call and answer, a liturgy of sorts. 3.0 out of 5 stars I laugh every time I hear this song
I have heard this song twice, and it's friggin' hilarious. It makes no sense. And what the hell is with the super deep voice every so often? Who put Whitey in the White House? You did baby. Knock it off Crash Test Dummies, you weird loons!

I am compelled to listen and re-listen to "Keep a Lid on Things," not so much for its immedialte pleasure (although it is a very seductive work), but rather, because it remains oddly present in my mind. I keep returning to the pauses between call and response... between one line and the next: a poignancy unmatched by earlier works by CTD. In the final line, an ironic twist, the song becomes political and the meaning is transformed (again): "who put the whitey in the white house?/you did baby..." This song is multivalent -- open to numerious and sundry meanings -- the projections from the listener's mind. I love the song! Who put the doggie in the dog house? You did baby, you did....

It's a pretty cool song, though I never heard of them since the old MTV days. Now I hear them on MuchMusic, and the song is really catchy! See you later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crash Test Dummies make a comeback!, February 14, 1999

I thought this particular song was very well done, Its kind of weird to hear the lead singer change the aptitude of his voice, but none the less it has a catchy tune, with excellent lyrics. This is the kind of song you can just relax with.
