5.0 out of 5 stars Great Chicago blues by two of the best on slide guitars., May 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Keep on Walkin' (Audio CD)
This cd is one of my favorites with these two musicians. Playing great blues, and with real feelings. Having heard many small blues bands, these are the guys I will follow anytime I can get to where they are playing. We need more from them on cd's.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Hottest Blues Slide Guitarists From Chicago, April 14, 2009
This review is from: Keep on Walkin' (Audio CD)
My best friend found Lil Ed Williams as he was browsing for some good rockin' blues. We listened and we were both blown away by his masterful fiery slide guitar that rocks the house and leaves you breathless. How could we have missed the brilliance of this man.

Lil' Ed Williams is best known for his group The Blues Imperials which have been called "the world's #1 houserockin` band". He was mentored by his uncle, J. BHutto. Lil' Ed formed The Blues Imperials in 1975 and said "J.B. was my idol. He was the man that I adored". Lil Ed and his wife Pam write most of his songs. The subject matter of the songs - overcoming defeat, resisting temptation, having respect, loyalty, and responsibility are values that Lil Ed admires.

'Keep On Walkin' with Lil Ed and Dave Weld has the two guitarists playing their slide guitars with an acoustic version of a Lil Ed original, "North Carolina Bound." This is a big sound that sets your heart apoundin' and prepares you for some of the best rockin' blues you are ever going to hear. The next couple of songs are full-throttle electric blues, 'Let's Boogie Baby' and 'Combination Boogie'. 'Confess Diane' is a slow tune of real Chicago blues. 'I Can't Have Nothing' is an electric tribute to blues musicians. And the title song 'Keep On Walkin' is the quintessential rockin' blues. The CD contains 14 songs that alternate between electric and acoustic. This is one of the best electric slide blues CDs you will find.

My friend compared Lil' Ed to Taj Mahal and Junior Walker. They have done a lot to reshape the definition and scope of electric slide blues music during their 40 year career by fusing it with nontraditional forms. The electric slide technique was made popular by African American blues artists. It is also used in rock, by bands such as The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. Lil Ed is known in his circles as the supreme electric slide blues man. One of the best quotes I read about Lil'Ed and his group is "Their energetic music rocks like a bed in a brothel while the slide guitar barrels over you like a mighty machine."

Highly Highly Recommended. prisrob 04-14-09
