Book Description

<DIV><DIV> <p class="CATLEADERS" style="margin: 0in -31.7pt 0pt 0in; tab-stops: right dotted 463.5pt 6.5in">You and your tractor; it was love at first sight, and you’ve been the perfect pair ever since. But sooner or later, the old iron’s going to show its age. It sputters and coughs, oozes grease, wobbles on its wheels, gets rusty, and sometimes even dies. That plow that came with the tractor is still just an incomprehensible pile of parts gathering dust in the corner of your shed. Never fear. This is a relationship that can be saved--with the help of the How to Keep Your Classic Tractor Alive, a book that tells you everything you need to know to keep your old iron chugging happily along. Now revamped with all color photography and a new design, the MBI classic covers all the basic questions and crucial aspects of buying, owning, rebuilding, and using an old tractor, from maintenance and troubleshooting to plowing methods and trailering. Trying to decide which tractor is right for you? Author Spencer Yost suggests ideal models for work, collecting, or both, and all of his invaluable advice is accompanied by full-color photography. Looking for a parts supplier? An extensive revised and updated appendix will help you track down everything from repro carburetor parts to steering wheel restoration shops. This is a resource no old-iron enthusiast can afford to be without.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good General Overview, May 12, 2010
This review is from: How to Keep Your Classic Tractor Alive (Paperback)
This books title is precisely what I needed: how to keep two 60 year old machines functional. The author starts with a consideration of choice in buying a used tractor, gives a brief tour of different companies and machines, and discusses operation, safety, maintenance, and overhauling.

its probably a little too much for one thinnish book, but a great starting point, especially (1) his encouraging "you can do it" attitude and (2) his troubleshooting guides.
