5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful!, January 18, 2007
This review is from: The Keeper of Eternity (Paperback)
Julienne Blackthorne Hunter has returned to Blackthorne Manor as a scarred woman, both emotionally and physically. Her ex-husband marred her fashion model face while the addiction to cocaine has wrecked her soul. Returning home is her only option... a home her mother fled over twenty years ago to escape Morgan Saint-Evanston, a man she both feared and loathed. Julienne is about to learn about her family's occultic heritage and the consequences could be deadly. What will happen when Morgan faces his old enemy, Xavier D'Shagre?

Morgan Saint-Evanston is a complex character as he initially seems cold and rather menacing. Devyn Quinn truly demonstrates her talent as a writer with Morgan as he doesn't originally appear to be very heroic or romantic and yet, by the conclusion of the story, he is both. Some may find Morgan a bit too dark, but this reviewer commends Devyn Quinn for daring to create such a multifaceted character as one begins to understand the reasons for his behaviors as the story unfolds. Julienne is the perfect complement to Morgan as she too is scarred but not broken and her feistiness keeps Morgan on his toes and warms his cold heart.

THE KEEPER OF ETERNITY is one of those stories that reminds this reviewer of exactly why she enjoys urban fantasy so much. Devyn Quinn has incorporated all of the necessary elements of a superb urban fantasy novel- a dark, brooding hero with a secretive past, magic, another dimension, immortals, and a few other surprises along the way. The characters are multidimensional and the world building is simply phenomenal. The overall ambience is reminiscent of the classic gothic novels but Ms. Quinn far exceeds the parameters of a gothic tale as she has crafted a tale that has the earmarks of a true masterpiece. The only caution this reviewer will provide is that THE KEEPER OF ETERNITY is definitely part of a series, and thus the ending is will leave you rapidly searching for the next book to find out what happens next. What a wonderful read!

OK, it wasn't so bad that I couldn't get through it, but still it was pretty bad. I found myself wishing, after only about a quarter of the way through, that all the main characters would just die already...they were so unlikeable.
The ending is a major cliffhanger, but having wasted to much of my life reading this book, I have no desire to read the next in the series to find out what happens.
The best thing about The Keeper of Eternity is that it was a free download for Kindle. If I'd actually paid, I'd probably have given it one star.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite, April 3, 2009
I was drawn to the title and as I read kept hoping that it would be explained. It never was. But that's OK. I also hoped to see the charactors developed. That didn't happen either. The final disapointment was the ending. I didn't really expect happily ever after but give me a break.
It did keep me reading until the end.
