Some smokin' jams,
By Smokestack lightning (The Big Sky) - See all my reviews

Hey, I can't believe there aren't any other reviews out there about this CD. Looks like Merl broke out a magical night from the old vaults. It's got some smokin jams out of Jerry, Merl, and Grisman. Track #3 will throw ya back in a groove. What kills me is they recorded most of the takes live at 3 in the morn. Guess they all had a lil' muse and candy action on that night.Anyhow, you'd be a sucka to let this pick go by. It's a "keeper" for real.

This is a compilation of both Live and Studio Recordings,
This review is from: Keepers (Audio CD)
The CD is a compilation of live and studio stuff, largely unreleased material from Merl Saunders recording period at Fantasy Records from 1971 to 1975. She's Got Charisma and M.S. have been previously released.
The recording dates for the tracks are; * Iron Horse, Little Bit Of Righteousness - 1971 * She's Got Charisma - 1972 * I Was Made To Love Her - July 1973 (Live at the Keystone, Berkeley) * Keepers (Finders), Georgia On My Mind - September 2, 1973 (Live at the Record Plant) * Mystery Train, That's All Right, La-La, Bolinas Brown and Gee Baby Ain't I Good To You - January 12, 1974 * Wondering Why, M.S. - 1975 (Fantasy Studios)

Good, but Well-Matched covers the ground,

Good stuff but I got "Well-Matched" (Garcia/Saunders) and that has enough of this album compiled on it with Keystone Vol. 1 in addition---so I recommend that instead.

I bought the CD for the track listed above, which showcases classic 70's Garcia guitar work. There are other gems too; obviously "Keepers", also a song called "Wondering". One of my housemates asked me if I was listening to the soundtrack to a pornographic movie -- some of the tracks might sound like that, it's a legitimate comment, but even those tracks are well-played and impart a good vibration.
