5.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative and important
Richard Friar takes his chilling vision of the future, reminiscent of Huxley, Bradbury and Orwell, and shows us how and why it can happen. In addition to the social and moral issues Friar addresses in the novel, he creates and takes us into an elaborate and imaginative world of the future, complete with complex war machines and technologies. This book (and hopefully the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time
For the most part I found this quite boring. The only thing that kept me at it was my desire to prove out a hypothesis that I developed early on - that the book has an inherently anti American bent. While it never became completely obvious, and in the end it was finally clear that the bad guy was indeed a bad guy, I nonetheless cannot shake the sense that the author has a...

5.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative and important, August 1, 2006
This review is from: The Keepers: Wwiii (Paperback)
Richard Friar takes his chilling vision of the future, reminiscent of Huxley, Bradbury and Orwell, and shows us how and why it can happen. In addition to the social and moral issues Friar addresses in the novel, he creates and takes us into an elaborate and imaginative world of the future, complete with complex war machines and technologies. This book (and hopefully the others in the series) seems tailor-made to become a movie. My only hope is that some of the important messages that the author conveys are not lost in the translation.

Richard Friar is a very talented young author and I recommend his work to anyone who likes science fiction and fantasy but who also wants their books to provide more than just entertainment. An excellent read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for men--ladies will like it too!, August 1, 2006
By

This review is from: The Keepers: Wwiii (Paperback)
My husband loves Sci-Fi and thought this book was terrific. After he read it, he gave it to me and said he thought I would like it. I thought that was strange since I am normally a mystery/strong character story reader. But I gave it a shot and by the third chapter I was hooked. My husband liked the cool war stuff and military operations. I liked the three dimensional characters and how they dealt with the issues and each other throughout. I never thought I would recommend this type of book to other women, but I am. If I like it, you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Science Fiction Epic since Star Wars, July 29, 2006
This review is from: The Keepers: Wwiii (Paperback)
The whole time I was reading I envisioned this as a movie. The characters, story line and especially the war machines were so awesome that this has to be a movie some day. Hey George, read this and make this into a movie. I promise I will see it 5 or 6 times.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must read!!!, July 31, 2006
This review is from: The Keepers: Wwiii (Paperback)
By far the greatest action/sci-fi story I've ever been exposed to. I found myself deeply enthralled and unable to put this epic down. After reading, this work leaves the reader enlightened, not only about the current very serious issues of today, but shows just how deep and creative the human imagination can take us. The great war machines and detail are beyond belief. This novel is not just one of those stories that leeps straight from the author's mind to the page, with unexplained creatures and machines; this is well thought out, detailed, and realistic addition to the genre. A little lengthly, but never boring. This very satisfied customer is enthusiastically awaiting the next installment of this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, original and great technology, July 29, 2006
This review is from: The Keepers: Wwiii (Paperback)
I am a computer geek. Therefore I loved the awesome technology the book described along with the war machines. The story was great, the characters were great; I loved the way these controversial issues were woven within the storyline. With all the unoriginal stuff out there, it is nice to see something fresh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't put this book down!, July 26, 2006

I've never read 650 pages so fast in my life! I just couldn't put this book away. The writer wraps you in this world not so far from today and shows you new perspectives on many topics. I love how he extrapolates current issues and creates such interesting political characters. The war machines are mind blowing! Gotta check out the author's web site [...]to see more pics in full color. This is gonna be the next big epic, can't wait to read the next books, and see them on the movies! I'm glad there are young authors with so much talent out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely entertaining, July 31, 2006

This review is from: The Keepers: Wwiii (Paperback)
I like action/adventure and sci-fi novels and this was a great combination of both. Great intrigue, characters and images (something you don't see in most books). I look forward to the next part of the trilogy. Earlier reviews said this would make a great movie but I think it would make a great video game. The animal like war machines are like nothing I could have imagined. They are amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank goodness-The keepers is actual something new and original, July 30, 2006

All you see at the movies now days are remakes and sequels. How many really good books or movies have there been over the last 15 years (few and far between). This is a well written, exciting story that is realistic, rational and new. What a breath of fresh air. I saw a previous review saying that this book should be turned into a movie. I agree. I don't know if I would see it 5 or 6 times, but at least a few.

5.0 out of 5 stars Move over Harry Potter, July 30, 2006
This review is from: The Keepers: Wwiii (Paperback)
I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I read every book and see every movie (like allot of people). This book has everything that you love about Harry Potter plus. I loved the intrigue, the incredible war machines of the future and most of all the issues which cause WW3. This is a Sci-Fi fiction novel yes, but it is also very interesting and a bit scary thinking that the issues discussed in "the Keepers" are here now. Is "the Keepers" our future?

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book, July 29, 2006

History Nut (Seattle, WA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Keepers: Wwiii (Paperback)
I am an avid history nut especially as it relates to wars and cultures throughout time. This book is fascinating how it takes the past and uses it to makes a future that is truly realistic and believable. The military armament used is incredible (you have to see these images). The CIA calls Tom Clancy to look at all the possibilities of Terror attacks. I think the military will be calling this author to discuss weapons of the future.
