Book Description

A promise to save her brother's soul unearths a conspiracy she was not prepared for...

Arieana’s brother has been murdered by her own people in a world not their own. Forced into breaking ancient law, she ventures into the human realm in search of her brother's soul. Once she steps through the Veil, she realizes the renegades are up to more than just punishing a few humans. They want to destroy the race itself.

Forced to forge an unlikely alliance with the very race responsible for the storms tearing her world apart, she finds out more of her past than the elders want. With the war started, each clue they uncover leads them closer to the first of the elemental relics, and a chance to save mankind.

Together they must work side by side to stop the renegades…

Before time runs out for both worlds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keepers of Water by R. G. Porter March 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
"Keepers of Water" explores the concept of two different worlds sharing one space. Two worlds interdependent but only one world knowing the other exists.

But what happens if the world that is so blindly unaware of the other is beginning to inadvertently destroy the hidden world. How would you make contact across the veil that separates the worlds without bringing a more militarily advanced world civilisation into your own. Would you be able to stop the destruction of both worlds?

Ariena is about to cross over into the world of the others. The world that does not know she and her people share a common planet and fate with theirs. People that she and her people are afraid of.

Arieana knows that there are those of her kind who have entered the other world. People who have decided the best way to solve the problem is destroy the civilisation that is impeding her own. She must not only stop them, she must find out the plan before it is too late. Just as urgently she must bring the soul of her brother home. Her brother who was chasing the rebels and defending the others. Killed by her own kind. His death ignored by the counsel and unavenged.

R. G. Porter has created parallel universes that are familiar and yet shrouded in mystery. A story which speaks to the current questions we have about our environment and how we care for it. A novel that pits radical solutions to problems against those who would take a slower approach. It is an interesting interpretation and worth reading and thinking about.

The characters are interesting, well formed with good back stories and the action begins right at the start drawing us into the initial skirmishes in the battle to come. The world of her fantasy is complex and realist with just enough information to draw us in but not so much that we can't suspend our disbelief.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking... March 27, 2012
By Beeshon
Format:Kindle Edition
The media, fuelled by environmental scientists, is ever-increasingly on at us all to care more about the world we live in and urges us to be wary of the consequences of exploiting its finite resources. Some of us take it very seriously, and some have a devil-may-care attitude believing their own lifetime is perfectly safe...

....but what if there was another world which bore the brunt of the effects of our selfishness? What if the inhabitants of that world suffered directly from the way we continue to use and abuse what nature has given us freely and liberally? What if the inhabitants of that world are forced to enter ours and seek revenge for our unwitting destruction of theirs? The two worlds share, not only essential resources, but also an inability of those who rule to agree on the best remedial approach. As a result, a young girl, Arieana's, brother is killed by a militant faction amongst his own people and Arieana is forced into `our' world to seek vengeance for his death.

However, she encounters much more than obstacles in the way of her resolve. She discovers, after meeting an enthusiastic archaeologist, that her world has a history kept secret by those who govern it, the key to which are some crucial ancient relics - crucial because they will be fundamental in saving mankind. The acquisition of these relics becomes a race as the militants are after them too - for much more devastating reasons.

This is definitely a book with a message - a very topical, serious and important message. It's artfully interwoven into a story with some very determined characters and a tense and climactic ending. Scientists may try to instil in us the cause and effect of our devastation of natural resources, but Robyn gets you thinking on quite another dimension.

Arieana's brother is killed by her own people in a world not their own. She is forced to break an ancient law and cross the veil into the human world, to find her brother's soul. Once across the veil, she finds out that there are others from her world who want to destroy the human world, as they blame the humans for the devastating storms which are tearing her world apart.
Ariana is forced into an unlikely alliance with Sorien Jacobs, an archaeologist who has been sent to the Atacama Desert after the untimely death of his friend and mentor. Together they must work together to gather the clues to stop the renegades and save mankind, before time runs out for both worlds.

This is a beautifully woven story, which tells of two worlds that live side by side. There is Ariana's world, which is peaceful. The people use magic and work in harmony with nature. Then there is Earth, filled with humankind who exploit the natural resources and are damaging the environment with their machines. The two worlds are separated by a magic veil. When Ariana's brother is killed by her own people on the human side of the veil, she defies the law so that she can retrieve her brother's soul.
Ariana is a fantastic character. She wields magic that is extremely powerful and dangerous. I certainly wouldn't want to get on to her bad side! However, she loves her brother very much and seeks revenge on his murderers. When she crosses the veil and meets Sorien, she finds out that the elders in her world had not been entirely truthful about the past. She also finds out that her brother had a secret too.
This story has a powerful message about how humans are basically killing the planet with their greed for more of Mother Nature's resources; Mother Nature is trying to restore the balance by creating powerful storms. These are the storms that are affecting Ariana's world. However, there is also interwoven into this message a fantastic fantasy/mystery/adventure that kept me hooked. It is not a very long story, as there are only 183 pages, but R. G. Porter has created a mixture of fact and fiction that thoroughly entranced me, and made me think. I am now looking forward to reading the remaining books in this series, as I am dying to know what happens next! I highly recommend this book if you enjoy a good fantasy story with a dash of mystery and adventure mixed in with the paranormal.
