Sarah was crazy about horses. She saw an ad about taking care of a horse for the winter. She asked her parents if she could take care of the horse and they said yes. At first, Sarah thought that Barney wasn't a good horse. After a while, Sarah got used to Barney's personality. It wasn't easy for Sarah because Barney was a stubborn horse. Sarah received help in understanding Barney from Barney's owner.

This book is true to life. It gives you a good idea of what taking care of a horse is really like. It is also amusing and quite enjoyable to read. Sarah (the main character) learns, as a result of the horse's antics, that sometimes it's the horses that aren't perfect that teach you the most. I recommend this book to any horse lover!

Keeping Barney Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Keeping Barney (Paperback)
Keeping Barney is a book about a girl who sees an ad in the newspaper about a horse who needs a home for the winter. When her parents tell her that she can keep the horse for a the winter, she is elated. After having the horse for a while he becomes a BIG trouble maker! The girl is having a hard time getting him to trust her and obey commands. This is a book that isn't for everyone. It is so descriptive at times that the reader forgets what the story is about. Some of the characters aren't realistic at all and the horses behavior isn't realistic either. The characters who are supposed to have experience in something seem to know nothing about the subject. This book contains good information about horse care and riding. That is the one of the only good points.
