5.0 out of 5 stars A Marvelous Video Essay In The Bernstein Tradition, January 4, 2007
By

This review is from: Keeping Score: Copland and the American Sound (DVD)
This edition of "Keeping Score" is one of only two I've seen, but in looking at the ratings of the others available, I must rate this one tops, too! This makes for great viewing, not only for those familiar with Copland and his "American" sound, but for those willing to listen and learn and discover this terrific music. This state-of-the-art video presentation picks up where Leonard Bernstein's pioneering work in this field left off. In fact, Bernstein's spirit often lurks beneath the surface. If you have the other installments of "Keeping Score", add this to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Copland and the American Sound, March 26, 2008

This review is from: Keeping Score: Copland and the American Sound (DVD)
This is an excellent resource for those teaching academic music classes such as a college music survey course or IB Music at the high school level. My students and I enjoyed it a great deal. The level of discussion is uniformly high but accessible. The level of playing is tremendous.

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving documentary and wonderful performance, December 16, 2008
This review is from: Keeping Score: Copland and the American Sound (DVD)
This show is about an American hero who rose to the occasion to create music for a troubled country. We really could have used someone like him during the past few years! The documentary looks at a part of Copland's life that spans an important point in our history. MTT does a masterful job at balancing the music with the talk and the hour goes by quickly. The performance is superb and has a terrific feature where you can take yourself from the audience and pretend that you are listening with the Musicians onstage.
