Her best album ever!,

While Dee Dee's work is always polished, sometimes she can lack emotion and spirit. This album, however, combines her excellent craft with interpretation and emotion -- by far her best work. "The Island" is extremely seductive!!!

Top notch traditional jazz vocals,
By jwcarvin@compuserve.com (Tampa, Florida) - See all my reviews

Dee Dee Bridgewater has a voice that can come close to the range of Sarah Vaughan, can growl like Bessie Smith, and can scat like Ella. On this CD she demonstrates a remarkable versatility on a recording that features the traditional jazz idiom with clean, clear modern recording. Superior (for a mainstream jazz traditionalist who wants a current voice) to the more R&B "Love and Peace" CD.

I was late in discovering this extraordinary singer and I was thrilled by this album, which led me to buy some of her other CDs. Her treatment of "Autumn leaves" is this album is simply marvellous. What a singer!
