A great album,
By Jess "Jess" (Coal Country, PA) - See all my reviews

What can you say about a great artist such as Keith Whitley? From his beginnings as an outstanding bluegrass guitarist (and singer) with Ricky Skaggs to his move into the traditional country sound of the 80's, Keith's voice was simply fantastic. It seemed many of the neo-traditionalists of the 80's (ie George Strait and Randy Travis) relied heavily on the voice of Lefty Frizzel; Keith was the next step of Lefty Frizzel....the continuation of Lefty's sound. This album is very well recorded and the sound is superb; you can almost smell the whiskey and feel the heartache in every song. This is what country music is all about.

Should be mandatory songs on Country stations today,

I heard a radio dj-not too long ago- say on the air that whenever he played a Keith Whitley song that several listeners would call in and ask who the artist was. Today's Country radio stations are doing a disservice to their listeners by not putting all of Keith Whitleys top 10 and #1 hits (he had 5 #1's) in a semi-constant rotation on their play list. Classics like "I'm Over You","It Ain't Nothin","I'm No Stranger To The Rain","I Wonder Do You Think Of Me","Don't Close Your Eyes",and "When You Say Nothing At All" all hit the top 10 and should not be strangers to today's Country radio and that's regardless of what some consultant says or what testing and research reflects. I implore today's Country stations to play these songs on the air today and watch your arb's increase and watch your phones light up. Keith was truly a magnificent singer and these songs were very well crafted and fit in very well with today's Country music.
