"Imaginative Journey", April 4, 2005
This follow-up to Susan Barnes' "Kelly Karate: Encounters the Moon Princess" is a great book for all ages. It is an engaging tale featuring a personable and capable young heroine.
On an exciting journey of discovery, Kelly learns about the distant and recent past, and her future.
While hiking on a class field trip to Poteau Mountain in Oklahoma, Kelly catches a glimpse of...what was that? A white arctic fox?
Curious, she follows the creature, and circumstances direct her to a portal leading her into another world. Her adventure takes her back in time, where her nerve and moral strength stand her in good stead.
Together with her new Viking friends, she clashes with witches, demons and her own fears. A magical moonstone ring guides and protects her. Her relationship with Princess Ellida, granddaughter of the great Thor, and Ellida's brothers, Prince Erik and Prince Peter, intensifies, as together they fight Wryn the witch, and the Valkyries, the dark angels of death.
Exciting, empathetic characters and passages that are descriptive without being wordy, reveal thoughtful intent and careful construction.
The story flows smoothly yet takes unpredictable turns. Kelly's struggles and victories will absorb readers, and provide satisfaction at how all elements of the story fit together to form a well-rounded narrative.
