5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and inspiring!
A relaxing, fast-paced and uplifting story about a hardworking young girl who breaks the pattern of her difficult childhood and finds happiness in her art and in a loving relationship. Mike is a very dynamic chanracter - loving, patient, and very open to listening to the Will of God. I developed a crush on him too! lol

I feel this book was drawn out far too long. You knew from the first chapter was was going to happen. I enjoy most of Brunstetters books. This one just did not compare to her other writings.

(From the back cover: Kelly MacGregor says she'll never marry, not after what she's seen her father do to her mother. She's determined to escape her father's overbearing ways and the drudgery of driving the mules that pull his boat along the canal. Kelly dreams of owning a gallery where she can sell her drawings and paintings.

Mike Cooper believes Kelly is the woman God chose for him and wants nothing more than to be a husband who supports her artistic endeavors. But when Kelly declares she will never marry, Mike fears he has lost her forever.

Kelly has prayed that God will fulfill her dreams, but when an opportunity for true romance appears, will she realize that her dreams can walk hand in hand with a love created by God?)

Can't wait for the # 2 series to be published. This was an excellent book. Something a little different from the usual Amish books that W. Brunstetter writes. I really enjoyed the storyline and the ending too.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love Historical novels, December 12, 2009
I love to read historical novels that teach me something about our history, I learned a lot about life on the canal, Kelly is a hardworking young woman doing a job normally done by young men. She loves to draw and has to find creative ways to do it, I love her spirit and her determination. You see her grow and mature in all areas of her life. A great read!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars To me this is a terrific romance for a younger reader., October 4, 2011
This review is from: Kelly's Chance (Kindle Edition)
I really enjoyed this book. It was set in the Lehigh Canal and I learned much about a life I didn't even think about before. It is shocking to me how they lived and the work that people endured. (That some still endure.)

I really liked the characters - well, the ones we were supposed to like - and felt that their story was very sweet and romantic. One who hopes to get married and is waiting for God to show her the path she should take - or the patience she should be utilizing!

2.0 out of 5 stars Predictable, yet no plot, September 23, 2011

Where was the plot? I feel like the author was completely focused on her characters and forgot to include a plot. The character development wasn't satisfying. Did either of the main characters have a flaw? Mike tries to rush Kelly's feelings. Is that a flaw? Kelly assumes all men are like her father: overbearing and selfish. Is that really a flaw? At least there was no cheesy conversion scene...

This is a wonderful series, one that really held your attention to the end. I think this is one of the better series Wanda has written.

This is a very interesting reading item. It takes you back in time and you can visalize the mules walking the canal. The hard work they did back in that time frame. How people really lived and the way they provided for themselves on little to the next time. When we think of all we have and if we could put are selves in that time of life we would appreciate what we have now.

Sincerely yours,

Connie Renfer
